This is an awful movie. It is not funny. It is just cheap laughs. The story line is awful. It is just hype. Any comedy movie could be popular. People are such laughing junks that really does not have to be funny to be popular. It really does not need a good story line either. If you want see something really funny do not bother with this movie.

Jim Carrey is not the kind of comic actor that appeals to everyone, and so has garnered a huge legion of fans and haters. However, his talent is undeniable, as is his ability to make good films when he has the right team to work with. But in this movie something was lacking to produce success. Perhaps the film was too complex for its inexperienced screenwriter Lou Holtz Jr., who made his only film work here. In fact, it's a complex and sometimes disturbing film: the comic drama of a cable television operator with serious complexes caused by loneliness, an absent mother and a life marked by countless hours in front of the small screen. An ingenious and humorous way to criticize the exaggerated way our current society lives and absorbs television. Jim Carrey would return, some years later, to criticize the television industry through his participation in "The Truman Show". But, in the time this movie was released, he was not the kind of actor who used to do serious work, which might help to explain the difficulty the public had to digest and understand the veiled criticism behind his character, who was funny in a very serious and sinister way. The dark environment of the film and the haunted and charged filmmaking helped to reinforce this tone, creating a counterpoint to Carrey's humorous jokes and moments. Matthew Broderick has the second most important character in the plot, but never shows himself capable of coping with the talent of his colleague, always being two steps behind Carrey, completely overshadowed. The rest of the cast is virtually a figuration to which some lines were given.Uncomfortable, disturbing, funny but always reticent, this film was not meant to please all audiences, and this has in a way resulted in its own misunderstanding.

This movie is by no means a classic in the official sense, but it could def be seen as something of a cult classic. Jim Carrey's character could've been one of the most iconic for this sort of American comedy, if not for how overly exaggerated he becomes towards the end, a recurrent flaw in American films. Carrey, as usual, slips right into this insane, wild character like he'd been playing him forever and his range as a comedian and just actor overall seems infinite (possibly more ?). Some parts are flatout hilarious, and you might really laugh out loud. It's definitely very enjoyable and fun, but towards the 3/4's of the film it starts to go over-the-top too much and that's when the movie loses its focus and as a viewer your interest drops, and the movie-makers choose to go berserk with the comedy rather than maintain that somewhat decent level of credibility. Verdict: Good watch. Too bad about the last chapter there.

Jim Carrey is a very funny guy he is a cable guy who is the lonely person and is a good cable installer there is some very funny scenes. I love this movie the basketball scene along with the Medieval Times scene and the beginning part where he's installing the cable. It is a must- watch movie especially for Jim Carrey friends and the fans.I think it's funny how Jim Carrey is a lonely guy and kind of desperate for friends. The other actor I forget his name it is also good he plays. a character that's having a tough time with his girlfriend and Jim Carrey is trying to help him out.It makes you think Jim Carrey is he bad guy butt I think he's just troubled and is looking to make new friends and help out. But overall Jim Carrey did a good job with this movie.
