I have no words. Every horror you could've conceived about this anathema has come to fruition. For the sake of you and your family, if you loved the original, stay as far away as you possibly can.

But I am a fan of Musical theatre. I saw the touring production of this musical a few years ago in Denver. It was charming and enjoyable - as was this production! This is a musical based upon the writings of Jean Shepherd with a lot of beautiful nods to the original movie. If you're watching a "Live" production on TV - it's more than likely a televised version of musical theatre - don't expect a typical movie.

I loved this. I have never seen the musical, only the movie but I really enjoyed it and it made me feel very festive. I see from the reviews people giving it 1 star because it should not be a musical. Not sure how you can give it one star, it was really entertaining. If you love Christmas and you love the original then you should love this. Just know its the musical and not just a live version of the movie. Loved the songs and jokes. The acting was great, even better when you think it was all done live.A new must watch for me and my family every year. I hope they do another live version of something next year.

Lord love a duck, this debacle (and I'll admit I could NOT finish it), was mind-numbingly awful. From Maya Rudolph playing as one-dimensional mom (and the mom in the original was NOT one-dimensional), to all the caterwauling songs, this is probably the worst "live" TV I've ever witnessed. Not coming close to resembling the original story (which is now on 24-hours a day every Christmas), this was about as miscast as any production could be. Matthew Broderick narrating as the older Ralphie was bad enough, but he apparently didn't even know his lines. FOX lulled everyone to sleep and should pay for its out-and-out lie about this production. I never saw the first thing about this being a musical. And you would think if you're bold enough to take a 100 minute movie and turn it into a THREE HOUR production, there would be something--anything--that might be memorable. This was horrible to the nth degree. AWFUL.
