For the longest time, what - it's over twenty years since the film came out, but with Kevin Smith's involvement as writer and director, I thought the clerks of the title worked in a comic book store. Silly me. It's taken this long for me to watch the film because it just seemed moronic based on what I had read and heard about it, but along comes IMDb with it's Top 250 Film lists and I'm pointed in the direction of stuff I would never have watched otherwise. The sad truth here is that the picture was pretty darn funny, even with all the disgusting dialog and situations. As a writer, Smith definitely has a bead on the youth culture of the Nineties and it wasn't soon after this picture came out and his name was popping up everywhere. The principals he put together here were perfect for their roles, and Smith's own Silent Bob character is a blast. The only caveat here is that you don't let kids under the age of, I don't know, sixteen at least, get hold of this flick or they'll be lost forever. Just my take, but it WAS funny. I'm feeling so ashamed.

This was the best slice of apple pie you could ask for. A glimpse into suburban america that stands the test of time. His solid dialogue is what makes this a classic and i hope Kevin will give us more gems. Kevin stay healthy and don't let Ming Chen, Bryan Johnson, or Walt Flanagan stress you out.

I would say "love it or hate it", but really it's not about that. I don't "hate" this. I'm biased that 90's movies are the best, so if anything I tried harder than necessary to get into it. The random conversations, the intentionally stupid-witty dialog, the black n white angle, 90's youth culture with crossover alt metal in the background with the VHS rental and everything...But if this is basically a collection of short comedy sketches sown together to make something of a movie, and it can be mostly judged for its smaller parts, then it really isn't top notch stuff, and overall isn't anything more than a self-indulgent ultra-subjective account of impressions. It's fine that a film can be super subjective, but it does need to deliver in the quality of whatever craft it handles. Here, the humor is clear. It's obvious the edge the film is operating to reach.I'm not now deciding for everyone and saying it's horrible and no one should watch, but yes indeed I am. Just kidding. But it's pretty ordinary stuff. If it's your thing, you dig it, it means something in your personal life's development, it's nostalgic...perfect. But if you're an eager comedy fan and don't necessarily want to hear about hockey and edgy Star Wars opinions with 'cocks and dicks' every five minutes, and are looking for top notch, well constructed 90's "standup" more universal material, go straight for Seinfeld, it's outright superior stuff, or in a similar standup-style flick from 3 years earlier, check out Steve Oedekerk's "High Strung", absolutely hilarious.4/10.

On his day off, the clerk of a convenience store Dante Hicks (Brian O'Halloran) is summoned by his boss to be the substitute for his coworker that is ill. He is worried since he has a hockey game. Along the day, his friend Randal Graves (Jeff Anderson) that works in a video store on the next door stays most of the time with Dante. He is visited by his girlfriend Veronica (Marilyn Ghigliotti) that discloses intimacy to him; he learns that his former girlfriend Caitlin Bree (Lisa Spoonauer); he gives a break and plays the hockey game with Randal; he goes with Randal to a wake. Meanwhile the drug dealers Jay (Jason Mewes) and Silent Bob (Kevin Smith) sells drugs on the sidewalk. In 1994, the low-budget "Clerks" is a milestone to the career of Kevin Smith. Divided in nineteen chapters in black-and white, using a few locations and with unknown cast, the witty "Clerks" is a very funny comedy even twenty-two years after its release. My vote is eight.Title (Brazil): "O Balconista" (The Clerk")
