Shortbus (2021)

At first glance this sexually explicit comedy drama might seem like a porn movie, but delve deeper and you discover a truly moving and emotional film with exceptional acting. It also teaches us to look for signs when someone might be in need of guidance and advise, or detect suicidal notions. Ultimately, I believe, the film is about finding your inner bliss. This was an unusual but wonderful movie experience.

Shortbus is very high on the list of my most beloved movies. I can not avoid to call it a masterwork. And why is that so ?It is a deeeply human movie. It has so many facettes, like comedic, sensual, pornographic, sad, senseful, atmospheric, toughtful, and many other things. It's a vibrant view on the lifes of some outsiders or people who don't fit in functionwise, and are searching for magic in their live, which is provided through the club shortbus as a catalysator. The movie is much too far off the main road to be swallowed in one session. It has to be watched sometimes, so one can find always new aspects and details.While going very deep into some sad or explicit situations, Shortbus alwas stays lighthearted, not taking itself too serious. Acting is partially phenomenous, it's often more being than acting, so that I had the impression of sitting between those characters and watching them living, losing, hurting and hoping.In the end, I am always a bit sad the movie is such a loner in the landscape. The concept is so easy, and not even its creator managed to make a follow-up. It's the actual proof that modern cinema can be glorious, intelligent, erotic, sensitive AND enjoyable. I do not want to believe that this proof will be the only one in decades.We need at least a couple more movies like this, since we are all existing through sex and emotions, and we should enjoy the short time we have. At least, I need. And because I always feel good and lighthearted, in a way healed, after watching Shortbus.

SHORTBUS is very inappropriately tagged as a comedy. In reality, it is a rather depressing tale of the lives of ordinary people. People who are constantly on the lookout for love, and who find themselves questioning the very existence of it. The film explores the confusing boundary between love and lust, and how it affects our lives.A warning for the faint of heart: the movie is VERY explicit. If you can get past that, you will get to see the story of people who are being sucked into the spiral of life and sex. From the very first shot of the film to the last, it is a piece of art.My favorite was Paul Dawson's portrayal of the melancholic 'James' who, even though he loves his incredibly loving partner, can't seem to find happiness in his life. If you are in the mood to watch a unique and truly touching movie which rings true and melts your heart, this is the one to choose. You won't be disappointed.

This movie was a little strange at times and other times, I couldn't pull my eye's away and had to back it up a few times to see the scene again.A lot of people will tell you that this is a gay porn film - this is further from the truth. The only reason they say this is because for the first time, there is male frontal nudity and not only that - aroused male frontal nudity. I think this is the first movie I've seen, with the exception of Hard On - that I have seen a hard penis and not only that - a hard penis cum. In this movie you will see two guys cum. One, very dramatically and will probably make you very hot and another one in which, if every man in the world could do it - would do. But the implications of him doing this to himself is too much to handle - because there is a whole lot more going on there that meets the eye.The only thing in this picture that truly turned me off was the stalker guy and who he turned out to really be and work for. And also the fact he claimed he wasn't gay, but in the next frame was boinking the lead guy and boinking the third wheel (watch the movie and you will understand). Classic.All in all, I will watch this movie again, and only for the great story behind all of the hard ding dongs in this picture. Trust me, there is a lot more sex going on with girl on guy in this picture also - check out the orgy scene. Only one gay couple in a room full of straight men and women doing it. I think a lot of straight people were turned off by this movie because of the hard penises, because they are so used to movies having breast and other women parts coming on scene every 5 seconds.Buy this movie on DVD and watch it at home with an open mind. You will come away feeling really uplifted and maybe - a little hot for your partner.
