It's not a masterpiece but Jesus, calm your farm and enjoy it for what it is. No one did a bad job of acting, it's a great line up, and regardless of the unoriginal message in it, SADLY we live in a world where WE NEED this reminder CONSTANTLY. So STFU and just appreciate it.I was expecting garbage and finished up pleasantly surprised. Anyone with high expectations, just P*ss off and find something else to be miserable about!Again, it's not Oscar winning, but I enjoyed it and I HATE romance films.

What would Charles Dickens think if he could see his work, his masterpieces manhandled in such a reckless way?Quite obvious for all to see, "Ghosts of girlfriends past" is just another pathetic rip off of "A Christmas Carol", yes there's enough differences to make this film unique in its own right, but there's no denying where the blatant inspiration came from. 'You will be visited by three ghosts...' yeah-yeah we all get it, only these three ghosts are of course not the ghosts of Christmas, but the ghosts of former girlfriends, sounds pretty lame right? That's because the film is as lame as it gets, but enjoyable all the same. Trying to become a serious actor, Matthew McConaughey takes a series bump in the road and a serious dent in the resume by taking on the role of super-stud Connor Mead..., a guy who is now an Academy Award winner and genuine leading man should realistically be avoiding films like this because they are somewhat beneath him. Yet here we are, his performance was pretty decent in all honesty, but could he have afforded to give any less? It was McConaughey's A-list performance that gave a real boost to the overall film, for I felt that without him the film wouldn't have been anywhere near as good it was, and the film as it is barely gets a passing grade. Michael Douglas as the dearly departed Uncle Wayne was another standout performance, Douglas really didn't need the role but at his age I guess he can do what he wants, he's earned it.Sadly I felt that Jennifer Garner wrote her performance in and didn't truly seem committed to the role, something she seems to do in a lot of her films and probably the main cause for why her career has probably been held down. Out of the supporting cast there's a recognisable name, a youngish Emma Stone has a semi-important role, this of course during the early days of her fledgling career, she would of course go onto bigger and better things; as for the rest of the supporting cast, there's a who's who of who's that? Character actors of no real fame getting lucky by landing a role in a mainstream production, some were okay, some weren't, nothing to write home about. "Ghosts of girlfriends past" can easily be defined as a chic-flick and that's basically all it is, don't expect any major thrills but it's an easy way to kill an hour or two.

Ghosts of Girlfriends Past (2009): Dir: Mark Waters / Cast: Matthew McConaughey, Jennifer Garner, Michael Douglas, Breckin Meyer, Lacey Chabert: Here is an interesting take on the Christmas Scrooge films only this one regards one's disregard for relationships. It is a romantic comedy that deals with decisions that emerge later in life. Arrogant photographer Matthew McConaughey appears for his brother's wedding only to be confronted by the ghost of his uncle who declares that he will be visited by images of women from his past, present and future. Great idea marred by an insincere ending. Directed by Mark Waters who made the excellent teen comedy Mean Girls as well as Just Like Heaven and Freaky Friday. This is no Mean Girls but it certainly makes up for ideas. McConaughey is in top form fumbling through regrets and choices before the lame sentiment third act sets in. Jennifer Garner plays the woman that got away who is unimpressed with his antics but ultimately becomes "the one." Breckin Meyer and Lacey Chabert overact shamelessly as the married couple whose wedding seems to be in shambles because of McConaughey because blaming him just plainly seems convenient. Michael Douglas steals scenes as McConaughey's deceased flamboyant uncle who appears as a ghost. Its satire twist on the Christmas Scrooge story is inventive despite narrative familiarity. Score: 7 ½ / 10

You know what? I really liked this movie. Even though I pretty much despise and detest Matthew McConaughey, I still had a really fun time with this movie. That also goes for Jennifer Garner, I don't like her much either. Emma Stone is so funny in this movie, she just steals the show. She makes you think that you're watching a comedy, as apposed to a romantic comedy, which it apparently is. Don't get me wrong, I really like the romantic side of this movie. The actors are funny and very talented. This movie is about a boy and girl, who fell in love, but then fell out of love. The whole movie is based around Connor and Jenny's relationship. They were best friends when they were kids, then they got together during their teen years, and then a few years later, rekindled and hooked up. But because Connor was afraid of commitment, he left her in her bed, alone. They obviously didn't stay together. Now, a few years later, at Connor's brother's wedding, we see the pair meet once again. Connor doesn't know how to fix it, and when he goes up to his room he meets the Ghost Of Girlfriends Past. This ghost takes Connor on a spiritual journey to see how his life should be, instead of what it is. The movie ends with Connor and Jenny getting back together, which is a predictable ending, but an ending I wanted to see.Overall, I give this movie an 8 out of 10.
