Something sinister has come to the shores of Erin Island, unbeknownst to the quaint population of this sleepy fishing village resting somewhere off Ireland’s coast. First, some fishermen go missing. Then there is the rash of whale carcasses suddenly washing up on the beach. When the murders start, it’s up to two mismatched cops – an irresponsible alcoholic and his new partner, a by-the-book woman from the mainland – to protect the townsfolk from the giant, bloodsucking, tentacled aliens that prey upon them. Their only weapon, they discover, is booze. If they want to survive the creatures’ onslaught, everyone will have to get very, very drunk!

I will constantly be disappointed at how foreign movies will slaughter animals to make a movie, horses, dogs and even whales--VERY sad that this thing actually won awards ==Whales for Gods sake, disgusting movie --U don't have to go very far into the movie to see the close up of the beached carcass of the whale, there is nothing in the credits to nay say the slaughter --Guess it takes too much money to CGI or create a phony, easier to just slaughter one or more of these precious mammals

What's with the Irish Film Board of late, cranking out loads of low budget hits like this gem.A small time tale of fun with Irish stereotypes, but enough depth, good script, and good acting, and buckets of laughs to make it stand tall.A creature feature, sci-fi, horror, and comedy, even a bit of drama, you can't say you don't get your monies worth. And lots of well known TV and film faces for us UK people to spot.I see Richard Coyle in loads of stuff these days, especially sci-fi,he seems to be able to handle any genre you throw at him, and loved him in Coupling doing comedy.A mention to Russell Tovey who most will know from Being Human. He doesn't seem to be able to turn in a bad performance. The rest of the cast are fine. I dropped my score to 8 only due to some of the stereotype characters these films seem to feel are needed, maybe for the US market. The Quiet Man was a long time ago, move on.

Oh my days, this film is nuts, I am a fan of all things Irish, and when they do humour they know how to do it properly.Something has washed up along the stunning Irish coast, they turn out to be Pilot Whales, but what's caused this strange phenomenon? Big time cop Garda Lisa Nolan lands on the small community of Aran Island to offer support to casual cop Ciaran o'Shea. The locals soon start disappearing, in monstrous fashion. And not long before it's full scale mayhem.I've become a huge fan of Russell Tovey, the guy can do it all, he is so funny, but Richard Coyle and Ruth Bradley make a fantastic double act.The humour is so good, it's so funny and the effects are considering it's a B movie, well put together. The backdrop of the grabber against a pub full of drunken Irish villagers is class.I fear this will be one of those films not enough people will get to see, it's well worth a look.

The lead actress is a brilliant comedian - good laughs for 30 mins, so I really recommend the first act of this movie. The combination of performer, writer, director was sweet. After that it lost pace, and I ended up wondering why there was so much to go before the final conflict. The premise of weird sea creatures was always going to need some extra sauce, but using alcohol didn't make sense - although it did give some laughs.Overall the Irish charm is excellent, but the mix of dialogue and accents will puzzle an international audience.Production is good. Not sure about editing. Score is effective.
