It's a little odd, this movie. Especially the appearance of Lila's little sister. What's the point? Only to ruin Lila's wedding dress? That's all? It's really okay if she doesn't exist, anyway. I really hate her stupid and innocent expression. Makes me wanna punch her in her face. Sorry. And her mother, too? What's so intimidating about her that makes Tom so nervous around her? He is a jerk, for crying out loud! And what's so rich about Lila's family. I didn't see it is being exposed. They're just like any other standard family, to me.If I'm not mistaken. these guys used to be best friends in college. And then they meet again ten years later to attend Lila's wedding with Tom, who accidentally Laura's ex. Well, I have never had a friendship that long of time, but why I didn't see bond between them. Lila looks like an outcast among them. Like nobody really cares about her wedding. And the big question is, why Lila and Laura have to be in love with Tom, who is apparently doubtful, insecure and confused about his own choice. Weak! I hate him.To me, this movie is like another version of Rachel Getting Married or Margo at The Wedding. Not the same, tho. Just the ambiance. But I kinda like the ending. Thank a lot something spared me from being bored to death

The Romantics presents a wedding occasion that is as messy, as complicated, and as unglamorous as life really is without exaggerations. It's a sad tale. The good. Straight forward and realistic. Interesting story. Well built background history. Sound characters with real flaws and qualities. Nicely meshed lives. Very involved scenario. Solid ending. The actors. Excellent cast. The best performances are given to us by the two opposites played by Katie Holmes and Anna Paquin. However, let's not forget the solid performances by Josh Duhamel as the top dog groom, Malin Akerman as the flaky actress, Elijah Wood as the messed up brother, and Candice Bergen as the anxious mother. The bad. It's stark, so it's probably not for everyone. The ugly. I can't find anything. The result. A film that captures your attention for its realism.

This was actually the worst movie I have ever seen. I am only writing this review to warn anyone else who might think it's a good idea to watch this. It's not. I would have rather spent an hour and forty minutes getting tortured by cannibals than watch this movie. I would rather eat y own body weight in live tarantulas than watch this movie again. If you are looking for a fun night get a bunch of your friends together and start this movie, the last person to want to contemplate suicide rather finish the film wins the game. I guarantee it doesn't last longer than 30 minutes. I am emotionally, physically, and mentally revolted.

It seems the negative reviewers here want a romantic comedy or something that is lively. The Romantics is a good ensemble acting piece and taken in that vein is actually involving and convincing. The tale of friends who have known and had relationships which each other since Ivy League days won't be everyone's cup of tea - it's very New England in all respects - but it is a well made and well thought through social comedy that shows its theatrical roots and is in no way bad viewing.Katie Holmes in particular shows some good acting chops and we enjoyed her performance a lot - which we hadn't expected to.All in all, The Romantics is a good set piece with a indie feel to it that should appeal to those who like well-crafted relationship dramas.
