Cut Bank (2015)

Somehow studios seem to be under the mistaken impression that by mentioning a comparison to "Fargo", their movie is going to magically be embraced by the theater going public. Any comparison of "Cut Bank" to "Fargo" is plain and simple false advertising. The film lacks Fargo's black humor, character development, and most importantly a clever script. The film does get the most from the talent of fine actors like John Malkovich, Bruce Dern, and Billy Bob Thornton , on this contrived drivel. None of the characters are developed, and none are even remotely likable. This is not Fargo-like, but is acceptable entertainment. - MERK

It's not about Wall Street or the financial related related film. The title is where this story sets in, a small town in the United States. This is a thriller about a young man Dwayne, who captured the murder of a mailman while making a video with his girlfriend. Following the event a series of murders takes place. When he comes to know the killer is after him, it's time to reveal us why it's all happening. Meanwhile the sheriff intensifies his investigation considering for the first time such thing happening on his watch in the town.Really a good theme, but some silly plots or the reason behind events makes us to feel this is a stupid film. I mean people can do anything for the silly reasons, but the film did not convince on that. Though the locations were good and so the actors. Hemsworth, Malkovich, Dern, Palmer, particularly Stuhlbarg was very good. The narration had no point of view, it was told from every character. It was directed by some television filmmaker, should have been better, but not bad for a view. This is a hit and miss thriller, I hope you watch it for a simple entertainment than anticipating too much out of it.6/10

So, the short story is that I was traveling across Germany with my friend for the whole week (we were on a business trip) We had to wait a lot and we were very bored. That friend of mine brought a laptop with us with lots of movies stored on it, because we needed something to pass our time. This information is necessary for anyone to picture how bored we were during the long waiting hours. During that week we watched mediocre, good and bad movies. When you are bored, you will find enjoyment in bad movies, especially if those movies fall into "so bad it's good" category. When you are really bored, an average adult (non-critic) viewer will find qualities in newest Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles movie. But there are those movies that are so boring it will force you to do daily chores like washing your dishes, iron your clothes or clean the room you are in.And this is one of those movie. This movie was so TERRIBLE that it made me uncomfortable. I kept looking at my watch and around me half the time. My friend fell asleep. I was thinking about closing the laptop and going to sleep myself, but I somehow forced myself to watch the whole thing because I didn't feel tired and I had nothing to do (no chores to pass the time). I assume it tried to be funny, but it failed to be funny and I love all kinds of comedies, and that includes black comedies, movies with random, weird, bizarre or childish humour. It obviously tried to be some kind of thriller, but when nothing makes any sense, then we are talking about a bad thriller. Acting ranged from absolutely terrible to mediocre. Writing and dialogues were disturbingly bad. It seemed like half of the dialogue was copied over from old movies (cliches, of course). Pretty much everything about this movie failed to impress me. The only thing interesting about this movie is that asocial guy in the glasses but even he wasn't interesting enough to me....now I can't even remember his name and it's been barely a week. I will mention the most important facts again: I was bored, I had no expectations for this movie and I had no idea what I will watch. But even then, even under these circumstances....this movie was painful to watch, completely unbearable. It made me physically uncomfortable. While this is not -the- worst movie I've watched, it is definitively on the list of worst movies I have ever seen. And I have watched a lot of bad movies that do not belong on that list.2016 EDIT: I had to fix my poor engRish grammar a bit.

I thought this reminded me a bit of Fargo but my more observant companion correctly and more accurately though it was a bit of a tribute to Blood Simple. If the movie had a weakness it was that Liam Hemsworth seemed a bit flat or lost compared to the others. The story was good, few puzzles still remain unexplained regarding the background of Derby Milton, the character whose singular unravels the plans of the main character and unleashes chaos. The women all play peripheral roles and more or less stand around and look worried.The story felt fresh and although there was a resolution of sorts it was not too cliché.
