Albeit not the best of the DC original animated movies, Wonder Woman boasts a bold direction, thrilling plot, and loads of mythology. It's no shock that this is one of the most critically acclaimed of the bunch. If you're going to make a Wonder Woman adaptation, this film just about checks every box you'd expect. A uniquely styled story, brutal but exciting action, and the most mythological story DC can get. Upon re-watch, this story holds up incredibly well. Not only is it a ripe message about willing to accept others for who they are, but it bolsters an even more powerful message of accepting who your true self is.The story is fascinating because of the immense mythology, but nowhere does it go to levels of The Dark Knight Returns or Batman: Under the Red Hood, where it transcends the animated genre. The film plays out as you'd expect an origin story would, but that doesn't eliminate the good writing and direction. It also doesn't hurt to have Nathan Fillion voice comedic relief and Diana Prince's love interest, Steve Trevor.Compared to other DCOAM's, Wonder Woman is brutally graphic for an animated film. Plenty of beheadings and sword battles could have easily pushed this to be rated R, which I understand was the original cut. As light as the film's ultimate message is, the violence feels earned and deserved, and never takes it to an over-the-top area. The one thing I had a small issue with was the casting of Keri Russell as Diana/Wonder Woman. Not that I don't really like Russell, I do, but I grew to love Susan Eisenberg's voice as the famed heroine, so it was a little jarring to hear someone different. Actually, none of the voice-over work felt particularly inspired here, which is surprising. However, overall, Wonder Woman is a special kind of DC adaptation. It doesn't hold back with its direction and certainly lassos in an important message to everyone. This is one of the best.8.8/10

As a self-confessed comic book and animation geek, I have to admit that I was a little hesitant to check out the distaff side of things. I'm used to watching the Superman/Batman/Green Lantern and Justice League guys do their stuff. In other words, before watching Wonder Woman, I wondered if anyone could ever make an animated feature with a female superhero who could hang with the guys.Glad I was wrong, and it was a good thing I gave this animated feature a shot, as Wonder Woman gets a solid treatment from the DC crew and emerges as a powerful warrior (warrioress?) in her own right. The film reprises Wonder Woman's birth, her early years on the hidden island of Themyscira, and her encounter with man once Ares, the god of war, escapes and she is entrusted with the task of bringing him to justice. The film, surprisingly bloody by DC standards at the time it was made, benefits from excellent animation and a strong voice cast. Alfred Molina embodies evil as Ares, while Keri Russell more than holds her own as Diana Prince/Wonder Woman, and Nathan Fillion also provides excellent comic timing and support as Steve Rogers. Rosario Dawson as Artemis also scores as does Oliver Platt as Hades in all his gross, dripping, smarmy evil, and really, all the voice parts are handled well.Where it does break down somewhat is the constant battle of the sexes idea. It was made early on in the movie and is repeated multiple times. I think they could have explored the relationship with modern society more instead of harping on the men-are-chauvinist-pigs concept. In spite of that, Wonder Woman delivers on a number of levels and shows that she is not only a vibrant and memorable character, she's also competing with the big boys now and beating them at their own game.A solid and very worthy entry in the animated DC-universe. Worth watching for anyone who's interested in a good story and excellent action.

I've been disappointed by a lot of superhero movies lately, such as the overrated The Avengers, but I'm still surprised to find that I liked this little animated film *more* than a lot of big budget action movies. The action was good, the story was simple but engaging, the dialogue was sharp, and the movie lacked the sense of its own importance that drags down so many big budget superhero movies.Fast paced and often amusing, the movie creates a convincing Wonder Woman both fascinated and repelled by the outside world. While it's done in the style of TV series like Batman Beyond, it's just a shade more adult, with a far amount of death in battle and some mild innuendo. I wouldn't call it a memorable movie, but it was a consistently entertaining one.

Im a big fan of the DC universe.Though I have never been a big fan of wonder woman, never hated her,but never saw anything special in her.So when I decided to watch this I never thought it would be this good. As of now this is one of my favorite animated DC movies. This is basically wonder womans origin story, and her fight against Ares, the god of war. The story is great and does a great job showing wonder womans interaction with the "real" world and her relationship with both her amazonian sisters and men. The story also does a good job introducing the mythology of the Amazons. The voice acting is excellent and both animation and action is on a very high level. I personally loved the intricacy of the action sequences. While kinda short the movie very fun the whole way. After watching it,it saddens me that this story was not made into a live action movie because I believe it would be a worthy addition to the DC comics short movie list and a great way to introduce this character to a broader audience.
