This movie is simply put astounding as far as anti war emotions goes. Quaid's character actually puts you in awestruck......WOW!This is one of those films which you should see alone only in order to capture the very essence of humanity with a broader spectrum of emotion. The end narrates beautifully the everlasting battle of life & death.I was fourteen when I first saw this movie and even after 11 long years it kept me captivated in the very essence of human joyousness. I wonder why Dennis Quaid is up with the G.I.Joe thing, instead a actor of his quality should excel in doing roles which explores humanity even in the darkest quarter of life. This cinema is one fine example of story telling. A 8 out of 10 for me.

Arguably flawed, but boy did this knock me on my butt.A film about the horror and brutality of war, but this one got to me in a way very few have. Dennis Quaid is simply great, and while there are a few clichés, and a little forced symbolism, the tension and emotions run very high throughout, and there are a number of scenes I will simply never forget. An American whose wife and child are killed by terrorists joins the foreign legion after going on his own killing spree in revenge, only to re find his humanity in the midst of the Serb Croat war, rescuing a woman and her child. The first and last thirds are flat out brilliant.

Yes this is a good movie but not as developed as it could be. I think it fell short for the part of audience who have been through such a tragic unbearable events and the part that have not been through such things ( hope they are more than the first category) are not able to actually touch the depth of the situation and have to rely on what they have hared and their environment. I think the writer, who has a noble sense of humanity tried to protect himself from the hurt and despair these kind of subject will cause to heart and at the same time that he was trying to develop the story. The meson scene is not as best as it could be. Some times it feels like the cast have not grasped the depth of the characters they represent. It's a very good movie but it could be better, this subject needs realistic art to be expressed thoroughly. There's a Canadian movie named shake hand with the devil which is about peace makers in Rwanda and it has expressed the subject way better than this one. If you like this movie I suggest you watch "Shake Hands with the Devil ".

I was surprised amidst all of the praise for Quaid's acting, all of it richly deserved, to see at the same time so little for that of Natasa Ninkovic, equally brilliant, disciplined, and deeply moving. The bitterness, pain, and grief that she communicates wordlessly, the utterly credible movement of the heart as she begins to relinquish it, her heroism in the end, I found so devastating that it would be very hard indeed to find anything comparable in the films of the past few years. (It seems worth adding that she is also incredibly beautiful, one of the most haunted and haunting faces I've ever seen.) The tension between Quaid's character, for whose emergent humanity she feels as an intrusion on her grief, and this ravaged soul who struggles against her own decency, strength, and capacity for hope, are striking for the sparenesss of the way it's enacted, and are sufficiently memorable that even in the midst of the carnage, hate, and cruelty of a war that seems to originate in a collective pathology, the goodness of the these two people are what I will remember from this tragic, beautiful, honest movie.
