Consummate actor Adrien Brody treats us yet again to a brilliant performance as a troubled psychiatrist suffering from selective amnesia. Everything he plays in is 75% better because he's there--and that honor generally only goes to Johnny Depp and Anthony Hopkins. This ghost story has a few twists, and the CGI helps tell the story instead of overpowers it. The first part of the film is quite a bit better than the last 45 minutes, but I like ghost stories without additional detective work and sequences which include revenge--even if it is ghostly. To me, BACKTRACK Part 2 should be about the psychiatrist's father and how he plans to pay his victims back--or just explain it all to God--or maybe both. In this film I would have liked to see the old man break down and confess instead of getting chewed up by a passenger train. All in all, this one's worth your time if you like spooky stories. I could have done without the jump scares, though.

After a huge performance in the pianist and getting Oscar Brody struggled to capitalise on this success, appearing in mostly forgettable movies that failed to make use of his potential.Backtrack borrows ideas from a number of other films, including The Sixth Sense and Stir of Echoes, failing to improve on them in any measurable way.The story is very familiar and has many clichés. the two main characters on display share painfully contrived dialogue that prevents audiences from empathising with their grief.Luckily, though — at least for its own attorneys — "Backtrack" eventually moves beyond its shamelessly borrowed set-up to create a few chills of its own.Brody does his best even if it's awfully familiar. But the movie really doesn't stand up to further analysis. And unless Brody starts landing some better jobs soon, his career really doesn't stand a ghost of a chance.

We've seen these stories before. Guy has a forgotten past, angry ghosts are making him solve the mystery which turns out to be different than the movie makes us believe at first. The movie is very slow, the script drags and there is not enough tension to make you sit on the edge of your seat. And probably that wasn't the intention anyway. No, it's a sit back and relax not so exciting ghost story. Some jump-scares make you not fall asleep.Of course Adrian Brody is trying to do his best to give a great performance, and he succeeds which is kind of an exercise realizing how dragging the script is he has been given. Same goes for the other leads. But when you feel the movie never ends and it is a 1hour20 minutes movie, that is a really bad sign - I was glad it was over. Still I'm giving it 6 out of 10 for the effort of trying to make a ghost movie with a slow burn. Not a really successful attempt but there is potential. Some Spanish director should make a remake of it, tear the script apart and start with the basics. Hopefully that would be more satisfying.
