Battlestar Galactica: Blood & Chrome (2012)

I was a big BSG fan, in fact I thought it was the best TV series I have ever watched. Caprica was alright, but very slow especially the early episodes, and can kind of see why it got canned after one season. However, I thought BSG Blood and Chrome, was really gripping and entertaining. I really liked the CGI, acting and plot, they were all very well done and solid. I really do hope someone takes up the chance to make a TV series out of it as I think if done well, this could be just as good as BSG. So please syfy or some other network, we are seriously lacking a decent science fiction show at the moment(since BSG finished to be honest), judging by blood and chrome, this looks a great candidate to make another classic series.

There are a lot of loose ends in the plot but that leaves those open to being developed later. That is part of what a plot needs to do. However, the problem here is not just a question of unanswered mysteries. The story that is intended to be contained within this "pilot" has a million holes especially regarding who and what are sent on such a supposedly important mission. There is such a huge disconnect with any realistic portrayal that one can't buy what they are selling. In fact, how they handle it are just excuses to show the kind of battle scenes and confrontations that they have in mind. No sane commanders would have acted that way. OK, if you can live with that, you will still be looking toward a series that will wallow in the the same old dark, gloomy sets, populated with the same maladjusted, borderline psychotic, substance abusing people, worn out cursing, corruption, traitorous factions lurking in the closets, etc. It would not be a thing of beauty. Throw in plot themes and background that come across as ugly dystopic social programming a la Hunger Games and its looks to be like a long swim in a cesspool. Why bother? The 2004 series broke down that way after a promising start and was sort-of rescued by some interesting ideas at the very end. I think the pool of interesting ideas is very dry now and only the cesspool is left. If you cannot agree with my criticisms above, i.e. you like that cesspool, you will still have to contend with the low standard in CGI shown in this pilot and a casting of the young Adama that gives little confidence of being able to handle the character growth that would be needed in a series. Furthermore, they would need to find some better writing as what we saw here was very tiresome and uninspired.

IT SUCKED 1. Lens Flares, yeah we all love Andrew Kramer and the Knolls Light Factory but this is overboard. 2. The entire plot revolves around getting the Doctor Lady to the Cylon Relay station. A task that apparently a raptor can do in under an hour when it rescues husker. 3. They are ditched by the other pilot who apparently thinks he can fly home to see his kid even though he is in a Viper, not a raptor. Vipers don't have FTL drives so he is kinda fracked on that account. 4. They Fleet trusts the entire mission to a rookie pilot, a short timer and a known traitor. Ummm bullsh*t! The entire WAR is resting on this mission, why send the tiny ship there to deploy the mission when you have like 4 fracking battle star just playing dead that could go there and ensure it's a success! FRACK just send in that rap-tor at the end, apparently its got the secret back way into the base to ensure it's a success. 5. The love scene is worthless and should have been scrapped in order to progress the other parts of the story along. frack this reboot.

Another spin off to an already DEAD franchise! I mean TAKE A HINT people you practically killed the franchise off with the remake off the series instead off continuing the original story! so PLEASE let it rest in peace! This is nothing more then money making of course the clueless fans does NOT seem to understand this at all as long as they get the special effects! The story is already done with everyone already know what is going to happen! Plus there is no originality in this re imagined version it looks more like a crossover between Twin Peaks,Real BSG and lost in space(WITHOUT the humor)! Sadly this has been done before to the Star Trek franchise starting with TNG which was little more then a total failure though Enterprise was a valiant attempt at salvaging the franchise even though it ultimately failed as well! The makers off Babylon 5 at least made a story that had a beginning a middle and an ending though various spin off's was attempted failed and simply put to rest!
