Confidence is one of those hit and miss movies. When it works it is brilliant however there are too many inherent flaws to make it worth recommending. Principally the biggest draw is Dustin Hoffmans performance. His character, the mobster "King", a sleaze bag with a volcanic personality, reminded me a lot of the character he played in the understated 1970's classic crime/drama Straight Time (which if you have not seen you really should check out. The scenes of Hoffman simultaneously threatening and coming on to Ed Burns are tense and darkly humorous. At other times the movie tries to be quirky and with its jaunty musical score gives the film a frustratingly uneven tone. Edward Burns is fine as the leader of the scam artist crew but i didn't buy into the other crew members one of whom should really stick to comedy. The addition of Rachael Weisz to the crew failed to impress me. When you consider strong female roles that make an impression in for example The Grifters and House of Games, Weisz really comes up short. The snaring of their mark for the sting to pay off King does not ring true. The promise of a honey trap is floated but the banker does not even have to sleep with Weisz in order to be suckered in and this is not believable. Andy Garcia pops up in an extended cameo to harass the two goonish cops who are helping and skimming Ed Burns but again this facet is played mostly for laughs. The ending was entirely predictable when it should have left you guessing and again not enough Hoffman.

Confidence tells about a bunch of grifters, led by Jake Vig.The infamous crime lord Winston King they call The King isn't pleased since they stole money that belongs to him.Now in order to pay him back he gives the group a job where they have to con a man named Morgan Price.Consider it done.Confidence (2003) is a movie directed by James Foley. It has an incredible cast.Let's start from the most legendary one, Dustin Hoffman. He plays The King, who else.Edward Burns plays Jake Vig.Paul Giamatti is Gordo. The Femme Fatale, Lily, is played by Rachel Weisz.Luis Guzmán is Officer Omar Manzano.Andy Garcia is the mysterious Special Agent Gunther Butan.Robert Forster is Morgan Price.Leland Orser of ER plays Lionel Dolby.Robert Pine plays the nice man Mr. Lewis they con. This movie looks really good. It'stylish and cool.In movies like this things rarely are what they seem to be.So you can't predict the ending at any point. If you can, you're really good.

Lets share some cons that we've heard/know of. The gas station change one is pretty cool but I think it's a little sketchy. Here's how it works and btw I'm copying and pasting this from a post. It's quite simple, but you need to be fast, confuse the victim and give him/her no time to think nor count the money. It works this way: You buy something for like $5 bucks, but pay with a $50 (though never leave the money, keep it in your hand) and, when asked for a smaller bill say you don't have any change, but immediately start looking in your wallet or purse to make sure. It is at this moment, when you start looking, that you put away your $50. At this time the cashier will be giving you the change for your bill, then say: "Oh silly me here I have a $5" grab that plus the change the cashier gave you and tell her that she probably needs change, so add the $50 you put away at first with all the other change and tell her you'll give her $100 in change if she gives you a $100 bill. When she does leave quickly, with this con you'd have made $45 bucks. And thats it, let's hear somemore cons that ppl know of !

Enjoyed this film concerning a professional con Jake Vig (Edward Burns), "The River King", who gets in real trouble with Dustin Hoffman,(The King) and has to repay a debit in a big hurry. Dustin Hoffman plays a real bad character who will smile and kill you at the same time or choose to torture you with slow painful results. Rachel Weisz,(Lily), "The Fountain" is an outstanding con-artist herself and very sexy and gets deeply involved with a big heist worth millions of dollars. There is some humor in the night club that The King owns between two so called sisters who have very strong sexual desires for each other and drive the poor King crazy. Great acting by the entire cast and all moving at a rather fast pace. Enjoy.
