Merlin and the War of the Dragons is an Asylum take on the King Arthur legend and as Asylum films goes this is not bad although it is kind of dull in a lot of places. Merlin is played here by Simon Lloyd-Roberts and he does not do a bad job at it. The action sequences are only barely adequate here and so are the dragons presented here. Merlin and the War of the Dragons was filmed in Wales and this movie certainly makes good use of its filming location. The best part of this movie is Jurgen Prochnow in his very sincere performance as The Mage a performance in which he certainly believes in playing the character to his full effect. The end of this movie indicated a sequel but no such sequel was ever made and I would have been curious to see where this story would have gone on from here.

I found the movie to be very entertaining, which is really what is important. Right? The story was interesting. There were one or two surprising twists to the plot. The acting was quite solid. The special effects were good (not great, but this wasn't a very high-budget film).Nia Ann as Lady Nimue and Carys Eleri as Lady Vivianne were excellent, as was Simon Lloyd Roberts as a youthful, inexperienced Merlin.(A side note: Nia Ann, a relative newcomer to acting, really stole my heart away. I look forward to watching her career grow.) The way themovie ended obviously left it open to a possible sequel. If it happens, I am very much looking forward to watching it.All in all, a really great movie!

This movie was pretty bad. The best thing that it has going for it is the scenery. The acting is horrible with few exceptions, the special effects are VERY bad, almost like there was no effort put forth. Merlins character looks like McLovin from Superbad, and the antagonist looks like someone who got beat up everyday in high school. I don't remember his name, but one of the warriors gives a really cheesy motivational speech to his army of 15 people that was ripped off from braveheart. The massive armies that are battling it out are comprised of about 30 ugly actors and occasionally some poor CG. Half of the actors couldn't control there horses. I wouldn't recommend watching this movie. Sorry of my review is a little disjointed.

I consider myself a fan of dragons which is what attracted me to watching this film in the beginning. But from almost the beginning it was clear that the special effects were completely unrealistic. The dragons well i cannot find a word strong enough to explain how poor they look and how unbelievable unreal. Not only were the special effects poor but the acting is as well. The whole movie just screams low budget. The battle scenes are terrible you see people getting cut with swords but at no point do you actually see any blood. At one point after a battle everyone basically gets up and runs away. Its over dramatic at all the wrong points and some of the backing music is really played at the wrong times.I do not consider myself to be harsh i have honestly never been so disappointed in a film. I will not be recommending it to anyone and i feel the need to in fact warn people before they waste time or heaven forbid money actually watching it
