If you have any idea of the kind of movies Seagal has been churning out since his last theatrically released movie (2002's "Half Past Dead"), you probably will know why I had sworn off watching any new Seagal movies some time ago, at least if I had to pay to see them. I rented "A Dangerous Man", because I read a positive report on it at another web site.To my surprise, I found the movie to be a decent way to spend an hour and a half. Oh sure, the movie is filled with flaws. Seagal is still using an obvious double for his fight scenes (and in one shot of a sex scene), the movie doesn't manage to disguise the British Columbia shooting locations as American, there are long chunks of the movie where Seagal is nowhere to be seen, and the climax goes on too long. But I was still entertained. The action sequences (and there are quite a few of them) are pretty brutal and bloody at times, and you do get to see less of Seagal's double in the fight scenes than in other recent films of his. The plot goes by at a fairly brisk pace, and the various villain schemes and actions by the other characters actually kept me interested in what would happen next. The movie's no classic, but it does provide an acceptable amount of entertainment.

After serving 6 years for a crime he didn't commit, Shane Daniels is released from jail with an apology from the State of Arizona. Within hours of his freedom, he unluckily bears witness to a cop killing by Chinese mafia who have a kidnapped girl and a bag of drug money. Shane agrees to help the girl to get her uncle back to safety. To do that he gets some help from Russian mafia, who's boss owns him a favour for saving his son from the Chinese cop killing.......A massive step down for Seagal, after the enjoyable 'The Keeper'. The dubbing is back, the close up poorly edited fight scenes are back (Bourne was so 2007), and the lack of story or narrative has gone.Seagal gurns his way through set piece after boring set piece, fighting, shooting, fighting some more. So what if his wife left him in the can? why didn't he just finish his fake bottle of jack Daniels and wash his Bandana.Seagal here isn't really a hero, he starts fights by egging the throwaway thugs on, so we can see him fight like he's playing patty-cake.The rest of the film is very stereotyped, we have Russians called Vlad and Dimitri, and a gang of Asian Gangsters led by, the colonel. You'd think that with a name like the colonel, he would explain to his 'soldiers' that if you wear camouflage make-up, not to wear bright clothes. So really it's a bit of a shambles for everyone concerned, and just when it looked like Seagal could be bothered for his fans again.Very poor.

Basically Steven Seagal is the baddest person on the planet taking on 3 separate groups aligned to kill him and the woman he is protecting. This is like a Mack Bolan book turned into a film. High body count, gore, Asian and Russian gangsters, a corrupt police force, with judo and 'street' fighting skills used heavily as in all Steven Seagal movies. I don't know about you but I never get tired of people getting bones snapped.Don't look too deep into the plot because it's just a killer action flick. If you're looking for a fun action flick with cool characters and plenty of gunfire and broken limbs. Look no further. If you're looking for some kind of developed plot besides 'almost everybody dies' then you might want to look elsewhere. You should know by now what you are getting yourself into with Seagal's movies. If you like pure action - check it out.Steven Seagal should be the next internet meme. He is much more meme worthy then that sellout Chuck Norris. Who does Steven Seagal love ? Nobody. He killed them ALL.

I gave this movie 8 out of 10 stars. Now before you laugh let me explain myself. In the Seagal world from 1988-2002 Seagal made theatrical, quality films ending with "Half Past Dead". Now people that grew up with Seagal as an action hero (Under Siege came out when I was in high school) then you also understand what happened next. In 2003 Seagals "The Foreigner" was pulled from Theatrical Release and release direct to DVD. Seagal fans were in shock at how bad this film was. Along came the DVD release of "Ticker" which was filmed in 2001 and shelved before being released. We all know why. "The Foreigner" was followed by the atrocious "Out For A Kill" and Seagal fans got worried. Then "Belly of the Beast" was released and Seagal fans let out a collective sigh. Not a great film but by no means was it as bad as the aforementioned films. It can't get any worse right? Well it could. Seagal fans went numb watching the likes of "Out of Reach", "Mercenary for Justice", "Today You Die", and "Submerged". Seagal fans re-watched "Exit Wounds" to remind themselves what his films used to be like. The all time low came in 2007 with "Flight of Fury" which was an outright joke. I had given up. Then came "Urban Justice" and "Pistol Whipped" and slowly I became interested again. In line with "The Keeper" "A Dangerous Man" keeps up the hope as it is probably his best Direct to DVD film yet. The action is solid and the fights are terrific. Yeah, the story lags in the middle a bit but you barely notice amidst the bone cracking martial artist (overweight I might add) doing his thing. So 8 out of 10. Not because it compares with a Tarantino film by any means. If you are a Seagal fan like I am then compared to "Flight of Fury" this truly is an 8 out of 10. Bring on "Machete"!
