Sammy and Ray, leatherback turtles and friends forever, are enjoying an atoll's water and sand, shepherding new hatchlings Ricky and Ella out to sea. Suddenly, a poacher swoops in and ships them off to be part of a spectacular aquarium show for tourists in Dubai. The kingpin of the place, Big D the seahorse, enlists them in his plans for a great escape. But with their new friends Jimbo the bug-eyed blob fish and Lulu the snippy lobster, Annabel the sweet Octopus, and a whole family of penguins, Sammy and Ray hatch breakout plans of their own. That is when little Ricky and Ella arrive, determined to break in to rescue them. After a series of thrilling adventures and narrow escapes, our heroes head south to meet up with Shelly, Sammy's first and only love.

Just an "okay" plot that used strange devices in uncomfortable ways to start the story. Very strange choices for the voice-acting. Mish mash of songs that had little or no connection to the scenes you hear them in. Animation was OK but some direct copying of Finding Nemo. I had zero connection to any of the characters and they really weren't memorable. A lot of the scenes I felt uncomfortable letting my 6 year-old watch...they could have been handled/written/directed differently without hurting the weak plot. I would not recommend this unless you had nothing else to watch and you needed a video babysitter for a child 5-7. Just goes to prove you don't need a good script to get produced, just connections.

I thought this was a good movie. Decent message, not as good music as the first one, but still, it was good. It has a positive message.I have heard others saying that is is too scary, but my 2 yo watches it without getting upset. One chase scene she is on the edge of her seat, but she cheers at the end. One of my only complaints is that they use the word friggin. That word, and words like it have no place in a kids movie. I was actually really surprised by it. And the mafia type seahorse is a little odd.But otherwise, good movie.

Sammy is a turtle: he is captured and put in an underwater high-end aquarium, and it is up to baby turtle offspring to rescue him. This CGI sequel to a film which I never saw didn't fill me with enthusiasm beforehand and, having seen it (not in 3D), it is absolutely clear how much of a debt it owes to Finding Nemo. But, in its own way, it is rather good. The characters are well designed (I have some reservations about the turtles' creepily human heads and shoulders), the settings and animation are good, and the story is involving, if derivative. Plus this is aimed at family audiences, and much of the design and humour appeals strongly to the younger element of the audience (though some sequences will be scary for them).Recommended for family viewing.

WITH the proliferation of animated movies, it's hard to separate the wheat from the chaff.Sammy 2 leans towards the former. It has an inspiring story that's easy to understand but the animation is nothing new and adult viewers may start looking at their watches. Two granddad turtles escape a bird attack but end up in a fishing trawler. The trawler brings its prized possessions to Dubai, where an Indian runs a sea world below the sea. Here, rich visitors dine in luxury while enjoying the sight of fishes swimming outside. The two turtles are introduced to a myriad of fish species, including Big D, a sea horse that's the gangster of the huge aquarium. His position is backed by two eels that speak in a French accent.BTW, the movie is directed by Belgian Ben Stassen and is dubbed into English. The turtles plot to escape, and this is where the plot emerges. It's a 'soft' copy of prison breakout movies. A hammerhead shark encourages viewers to never give up, which is the moral of this flick. The turtles must first wait for the arrival of their two grandkids, but not before the latter escape from two menacing fishes in a chase more exciting than the one in The Bourne Legacy. The movie picks up steam now as the whole gang of fishes get ready for their great escape. Other than the sea horse, the only other interesting character is a lobster with split personality.Movie Magic With Jeff Lee (blogspot and Facebook)
