Submergence (2018)

This film is slow, beautiful, emotionally subtle, full of (old.fashioned) dignity, and abstains from spectacular action. It is totally based in reality, and it examines two of the most important issues of today: Life and its origin and the problem of (fake?) religious fanaticism. It is very serious, so serious that it's almost not entertaining. You don't know what to think about it while watching, and you continue to ask yourself questions for hours and days after watching it. A feeling of vulnerability, concern and longing - by all means positive - will accompany you after watching, for a long time - provided you have a soul were able to get touched by the film. For me, there are just two major weaknesses: 1. People and places are *to* beautiful and perfect. 2. It's to short for its pace. I want a 3.5 hours directors cut. You have to know what you are doing when you go watch a Wim Wenders movie. If you do so, you won't be disappointed.

Seriously, this movie ended without any destination being reached. It set it up quite well, but there was no point, no conclusion, no deep reveal, no destination traveled to, I really enjoyed the scenery and some of the dialog, it was like a class on marine biology, and some average concepts on life, but then it just left it there, nothing...... Bit of a waste of the journey if you either don't have anything to say or you don't know how to convey it.

All the wonderful talented actors where mocked by the boringness of a thin story and weird long scenes that had no soul to them. I am so sorry this movie has failed. It has some of my favorite actors in it and it was just bad directing and a sad music score. The attempt to bind the story, characters and scenes together with water was awkwardly done and Far fetched. I am sure the script must have been good to lure these talented actors to participate. But movies like this can partially kill an actors career. I hope this is not the case. I felt it was utterly a waste of time with unrealistic conversations that felt misplaced. The movie only had a few good scenes. I am very disappointed and I didn't expect anything crazy anyways.

There is no way a man like the character McAvoy plays picks up a lonley girl like that on a beach while out jogging. Because hypergamy. It would be possible if the man was someone else, like Dwayne Johnson playing himself in the movie. Power, fame and money, that would work. But a solo, unknown, normal looking dude, stopping to do some pick up lines on a beautiful solo girl on a beach on his jog... please!! Today that would be considered sexual harrasment by the woman for even talking to her.So no, this did not work one bit. Whoever wrote the script and whoever did the casting are morons.
