A giant alien spider escapes from a military lab and rampages the city of Los Angeles. When a massive military strike fails, it is up to a team of scientists and one clever exterminator to kill the creature before the city is destroyed. When a film is titled such as this one is, lower your expectations and just have fun. Some critics have said it is a return to classic Roger Corman style. That is not exactly accurate. This is even more out there than Corman was in his prime. Others have said this is not as good as the SyFy Channel films of a similar nature. Wrong again, this is superior. If a complaint had to be made, it is that the film has a subtle anti-feminist vibe. The female lead, despite being a lieutenant in the military, is utterly helpless most of the time and needs a bumbling exterminator to save her. She just needs to look pretty. Wow.It would be easy to complain about the terrible CGI, but really this is just part of the fun. The creators obviously know it does not look real, but it looks real enough for the purposes of the film -- to entertain. While it could be a "horror comedy", it is more comedy than horror, with the gory scenes far outshadowed by the humor.Just relax and have fun.

I have to say, out of 10 stars, a 7 is a good honest rating in my opinion as this was created by Mike Mendez and being the Beavis & Butthead director and storyline projector he created yet another experience on the screen which made me laugh out loud often and smile at partially funny scenes.Want a good quality comedy which is so non-serious, its a good film? See Big Assed Spider! If the title hasn't made you smile, then perhaps documentaries about watching grass grow is more exciting for you. This movie fits into the categories of films such as: Very bad things (Dark comedy), Serial Mom (Dark comedy), South Park, The movie (Comedy).

Big Ass Spider! is a freaking B-Movie !OK, I said it. You can pretty much guessed that because of the title, also, the way the movie starts, pretty much says it all. You're gonna see a freaking B-Movie and it's going to be awesome.Big Ass spider starts ultra-fast, it uses very little time to develop it's characters and do it in a fantastic way, you have to take into consideration that these are going to be one-dimensional characters, because this is a freaking B-Movie.Why I keep repeating this is very important because the director and producers actually tried very hard to make a good B-Movie out of this, so, this movie is plagued with cheesy lines, cameos, jokes about other monster movies and so on..There is more than one thing this director gets right about this movie but dialog and acting comes first and this is where the movie truly shines, from guys almost laughing at a scary scene to the hilarious duo of the exterminator and the Mexican who start talking in Spanish when is nervous and the incredible stupid soldiers that stands still waiting to be killed, this movie is hilarious. There are a couple of nice places lines and cameos, like imitating scenes from Aliens and calling stupid names on the soldiers. (Private Green, SO good). The feel good aspect of the movie really stands out, primary because all the people involved was working fully aware they were going to do a b- movie, so they intentionally acted weird, they almost laugh at scary scenes, they jump and screams and say things out of timing and yes, incredible as it is, it works and you can actually feel this guys are having a lot of fun!I watched it almost completely sure I was gonna hate it and I end up loving it.Perfect movie for watching with friends and having a few laughs, specially if you're old like me and remember the 80' movies, not recommended for the serious movie-goer who can't stand a cheesy movie.

Loved this movie, it was hilarious and fun to watch with children around. Just loved the role that was played by (Lombardo Boyar) as security Jose and the exterminator Alex (Greg Grunberg), which both made a great team specially Jose (Lombardo Boyar) was hilarious through out the whole movie. Truly liked the filming which was in the surrounding areas of the City of Los Angeles. I actually rented this movie six times before I purchased it several times as well to give away to friends and siblings.. We definitely have to give credit to the the director Mike Mendez and the producers of this Sci-fi Hilarious movie…Wish we have many more of these movies out that are enjoyable and both children and parents can watch together.. I would like to congratulate the whole cast for an awesome job..you deserve the award that was given to you all for best movie on DVD, on Demand, etc..
