Shelter (2007)

Although it has a gay love subplot in it, it is not your standard gay fare. That is why I like and still watch Shelter The action and pace are good, and we get a good glimpse of the family dynamic. The Father is disabled, his sister is basically unfit putting her needs above the needs of her son and calling Zack to babysit as if he is the Father. He works at a dead end diner and has an on and off girlfriend named Torie.Zack falls in love with Shawn, his best friend's brother and has to figure out his path in life. Should he go with his dreams or stay stuck? What is his future? This film is brilliant in its simplicity and while it may be a low rent film, it pays off in a way that most big budget films rarely do Enjoy!

Shelter is a great film. I'm sad that I just heard about it, wish I knew about it before! It's about love, all kind of love and it's not focused on sex so it's better then most of the LGBT themed movies. I've enjoyed watching it so bad that I'll probably re-watch it again. Like FRIENDS marathon. It shows an independent young man's (Zach's) life, his adventure and talent. What he has done to help his family, how hard he tried to keep everything OK and finally something good (I'd say awesome tho) happens to him. I'll say it's one of the movies you should at least consider watching. And you know for most people LGBT means just having fun and having sex. This movie totally proves it wrong.

This movie was incredible! I loved every second of it. The way the characters were portrayed was very unique to the gay genre. Getting to watch as Zach became a whole new person was interesting. The way he reacted and the way he cared for everyone around him was different. I'm happy to finally watch a gay movie without all the comedy, stereotypes or vulgarity. It was a very wholesome movie that ANYONE would enjoy. Don't get me wrong, I LOVE vulgar comedies like Eating Out but I wanted something different for a change and that's exactly what I found. I thought it was nice to see Shaun portrayed as a very masculine character. Instead of making him flamboyant or even slightly stereotypical they made it to the point where I thought he was straight. Honestly, I didn't know he was gay until Jeanne mentioned it. I loved that Cody grew so fond of Shaun, it was adorable.

I only recently found out about this movie and I'm so glad I did! The movie is so amazing and inspiring to watch. It is a great film and I would urge people to watch it if they have no already. However, if you like huge box office smashers with plenty of action, this movie is not for you. It's so true to real life and has the ability to inspire others. The storyline is very simple yet so interesting and moving. It's a simple movie with a beautiful meaning behind it and I'm so happy I got to see it. It is now definitely one of my best movies and I wish more people would make movies like this, instead of all the non meaningful rubbish thats out there today. I really do recommend people to watch it, especially if you are thinking about it, it is worth it and you will hopefully enjoy it as much as I did!
