Frankenstein's Army (2013): Found footage Horror Film but it's WW2 footage. Dmitri an army propagandist is provided with a state of the art camera and is attached to a Red Army reconnaissance squad at the front. It opens with the usual shots of soldiers hamming it for the cameras, but also shows the outcuts where the troops don't behave so well. The squad come across some strangely mutilated bodies and really bizarre skeletons. Further on they discover a dead German soldier whose body seems to be fused to an odd fighting machine. The real horror begins when they reach an apparently abandoned building but are attacked by man-machine hybrids. The battle ensues and sonn Dmitri comes in contact with the mad scientist in charge of the operation - Dr Frankenstein. Some good cinema verité shots both in ordinary battle and fighting the monsters. Clashes in tunnels gives this the feel of Aliens without being too derivative. Some real thought went into the creation of the hybrids, slashers, guns, hooks attached to arms, these are literally steampunk cyborgs. One even has an aircraft engine complete with propellor affixed to his upper torso. Sounds crazy but perhaps it is a reflection on the bizarre medical experiments the nazi doctors performed in Concentration Camps. Frankenstein wishes to bring about a literal meeting of minds by melding two lobes from different people together.Directed by Richard Raaphorst, written by Chris M. Mitchell and Miguel Tejada-Flores, Frankenstein's Army is an effective Horror/War drama, veined with dark humour but starts to drag a bit towards the end. 7/10. On Horror Channel.

This movie was unreal and fantastic. It takes the mythology behind Hitler and his endeavor and twists it into a war/monster movie. It is dark sometimes, comedic at times, and scary when you see all these Frankenstein monsters. It it absolutely horrific how unreal the effects looked. Traditional consume designers and monster mask makers were used to create a fantastic experience. This is a fine, and the movie functions as a horror mixed with sci-fi. It is well acted and believable. You believe there is a war and these soldiers are going through a horrific experience where nightmares are real and you can die at any point.I can give this a 9 or 10 out of 10. I loved it and it is very entertaining, well paced and terrific acting make it a great experience and a good movie. It was directed well and the camera use added a grittiness to the movie as well as a high level or belief in what we are seeing is real.

Me and my son watched the trailer of this movie when watching the third season of The Walking Dead. The trailer looked quite cool so I decided to get it. Maybe I should hesitated a bit when I saw that it was really cheap on Amazon but I thought, what the heck, it is cheap and horror movies do not seem to have that big an audience these days. Well, unfortunately, the cheap price was well merited.I guess one good thing one can say about this movie is that the producer had tried to make it a bit original. Unfortunately it did not work for me. I have never really liked these handy-cam movies where all the scenes are jumping around. This one tried to be a bit original in that it was simulating being made by an old-fashioned world war II film camera instead of a handy-cam. I am afraid that it did not really make it any better as far as I am concerned. It just added a few scrapes and the occasional end of the film reel effect every so often. Usually when something gory was about to happen.Speaking of gory. The movie was not really that gory unless you count a lot of body parts being strewn around the scenes. Plenty of the, supposedly, gory parts was just silly, possibly supposed to be comical, but mostly just really silly. The part where the mad "genious" was grafting to brain parts, one Nazi and one communist, together was just ludicrous and sad.The blurb claims this was supposed to be Hitler's last ghastly attempt to win the war but in the movie it seemed little more than some crazy guys drug induced dream. The main adversary failed completely in projecting any form of "genius" image and there certainly did not seem to be any support from the Nazi regime. To make matters worse there was really not a single likable person in the movie. All the characters where either just filler characters, crazy people, real assholes or some mixture of said traits.I am afraid that I had to force myself to watch this movie to the end.

The overall thought behind the film is great and many of the actual 'zombots' were incredibly thought out. They appeared very realistic and made me jump on a few occasions which is exactly what you would expect when taking the genre into consideration. However, the execution and final result did not live up to my expectations. After reading many reviews I was excited to watch this film but I found it to be very mediocre and lost interest on many occasions. I couldn't stand the way in which it was shot as it gave off a very amateur effect. More suitable for people who like to watch basic films that don't require a lot of thinking. I wouldn't recommend this film to anyone and would have to be pinned down to watch it again.
