The Warrior (2001)

It's my favorite eastern at this moment. From the more recent movies, I did like "Warlords" a lot too. But "Musa" (aka the Warrior) is on the top of my list. And if you go out and watch it (if you haven't already), then make sure, you watch the Korean cut and not the international cut. They seemed to think that western audiences do not need a few things. And as I have spoken to a Korean friend of mine, I got some info on some rituals and customs, I wasn't aware of.But even without that knowledge the movie does offer you a lot. Be it in the action department, in the story department and in the character development. It is not a coincidence, that this was the most expensive movie, when it got made, in the Asian market (I'm not sure, if this still holds up, or Warlords or any other movie broke that "record").Of course you have to be able to watch an Eastern. For some people this is like torture (I know a few friends of mine couldn't sit through the shorter international version of this). But I'm talking about people who do get Asian cinema and love it. If you are not into it, that's cool. Just don't watch this or turn it off, if you gave it a try. But if you have some spark for Eastern movies, this is the one to watch! Believe me!

I watched Thai movie Bang Rajan last night.I thought it was a very good movie.I come from Europe so I didn't have much chance to watch Asian movies because I am not a fan of martial arts movies.But I came across a trailer of Bang Rajan and since I like watching war movies I watched it.I was surprised how good is Asian cinematography so I started looking for another good movie.I found something better-GREAT MOVIE.Musa the Warrior is excellent movie and only because of this movie I created an account here to write down these words.Great battle scenes,beautiful scenery,excellent music and unexpected ending-everything it needs to great movie as this one.Gladiator is my favourite movie but this movie is my second favourite now.PS:I have finished watching this movie just ten minutes ago and I had to write down this review immediately!

This thing drags on forever. Enough already. I get it. The plot is really simple - guys kill each other for no good reason. At times we get hints that something interesting could happen between the characters, but nothing worthwhile develops out of it. They just keep killing each other and acting like retards over and over. Very unsatisfying. The saving grace of this movie is that Ziyi Zhang is absolutely gorgeous, and acts pretty good too, otherwise it's 2 out of 10. Also, there are some awful scene cuts that don't make much sense, and the blood gushing out of wounds is a bit overboard. Do yourself a favor and watch 'Hero' for the tenth time before wasting your time with this.

Although I found the story hollow and in a few points quite meaningless, I like this film a lot. Great battle scenes! Excellent 'battle choreography'! The beginning of the movie reminds me on the story of Konan, but that is the only similarity. Very successful presentation of costumes of all the warriors, according to the history sources, bravo for that. Quite good acting, only the General's character should have been played a bit more realistic. Lovely princess :) I am from Europe and I know just a bit of Chinese and history of the East in general, so it was a bit hard for me to catch the relationships between the kingdoms, maybe it would be better if there was a map of them in the movie. Director did a wonderful job, and I recommend this movie to anyone who enjoys in anime kind of fight. ...And the movie could have been made shorter...
