PROS: For me, Andie McDowell is one of the most desirable women to ever appear on the big screen. I'd watch it just for her. The acting performance of Gérard Depardieu. He was purportedly France's best actor at the time, appearing in his first English speaking lead role. I wasn't disappointed. CONS: The ending was typical 'romantic comedy chick flick' but difficult to 'buy' given McDowell's attitude toward him up until that point. The whole premise behind why McDowell wanted to marry him in the first place is far-fetched. Favorite scenes: 1. Depardieu being courted by some single ladies over dinner, followed by an emotional appeal at the piano. 2. The couple sharing old photos on the couch, followed by the most dramatic and suspenseful scene in the movie. 3. McDowell's entry back into the greenhouse, alone, and her abrupt focus on some tomato plants. 4. Their separate interviews before the immigration officials. Emotional opinions of each other begin to flow from both their mouths as the editing brilliantly switches back and forth between the two. Enjoy!

This is a quirky and sometimes serious romantic comedy, which caught me by surprise. I wasn't prepared to view the quality performances with which I was presented in this film. I like Gérard Depardieu's work, and I've always loved Andie McDowell, but for some reason, I couldn't see this work turning in anything beyond fluff.I'm happy to report that I was surprised by the "cuteness" factor exhibited herein. Unfortunately, with today's Congressional immigration wrangling, this will not be a popular film today, nor was it highly received in its day, but if you're a fan of the Romantic Comedy, this is definitely worth your time.It rates a 7.7/10 on the RomCom Scale from...the Fiend :.

My daughter gave me the DVD for Christmas. I already had it on VHS. One question; Why does Andie McDowell look pregnant in some scenes and not in others. It is my favorite movie. Between the greenhouse, which is think I might too have to marry in order to get it myself if I were in her position, to Gerard's strange sexiness, to the African music, and the final scene with the exchange of rings, it cannot be beat!! Favorite lines include, "I am the husband, so yes I #@+* her", "She likes to eat birdseed", "She has peace, I do not have peace", and of course, . . "And always I will say, When are you coming Cherie?" Keep your eye on the prize!! Maybe we all should.

Last week I finally watched GC. I have been expecting to watch GC because I know Andie McDowell in it. She has unspeakable charming for me. I remember that I was attracted deeply by her when I first watched Four weddings and one funeral.I think that she is different from American sweet heart Meg Ryan (my favorite actress too). Meg is cute girl next door. But her recent film In the cut is totally failure. Among her movies When Harry met Sally is my most favorite. Comparing with her, Andie is more mature. Her show in Groundhog Day brought me much pleasure. This time GC is better. Of cause Gerard Depardieu should not be neglected. He is sure to be one of the best French actors. The most unforgettable scene is Gerard spoke lively poem in French while playing piano in order to win green plant for Andie. No doubt it is the most touching moment in the film. The good ending is welcome and heart-warming. Andie and Gerard duet is more impressive than the other two duets (Andie and Hugh grant, Andie and Bill Murray). Really hope they can cooperate again. Maybe GC2. 9/10
