August Underground's Mordum (2003)

This may contain spoilers, you have been warned. I have been a fan of horror movies for many years. In my opinion an example of a truly gripping film combining suspense and gore to produce horror is "Hostel". It has a plot, characters developed just enough to engage my emotions and make the subsequent torture hit me in the gut. This film lacks anything to stir the emotions. No explanation of who the victims are. No set up. No plot. Three giggling idiots filmed by a cameraman with palsy. No back story. Why should I care about these people or their victims? David Vogel is known for his special effects abilities, yet I found all the on screen blood unconvincing. There is a LOT of blood. There is one scene involving a bathtub that I found genuinely disturbing but, without a plot or characters you care about, one scene does not make a movie, even if you are a big fan of splatter films. I BOUGHT this movie. Wasted ten dollars. Its cover promises "genuine snuff" (according to Rue Morgue Magazine). It's genuine trash. I gave this film one star because I couldn't give it no stars. Do not waste 77 minutes of your life on this failure.

I came across this movie by chance years ago while looking through used dvds at a record shop. I had never heard of it, knew nothing about it, but I was intrigued by a quote from a Rue Morgue Magazine's review that was on the front cover. "It's genuine snuff. I don't recommend you watch this film, I f'in dare you" is what it read. So... unfortunately, I paid $10 for it thinking it'd be awesome. After reading about it on the Internet I was hesitant to watch it, it sat and collected dust for a very long time. I'm a huge horror fan, I love gore, so I finally decided to watch it a couple days ago... OH MY GOD, did it suck! Laughable acting, effects, EVERYTHING. No plot at all, it seemed to go on forever. One creepy scene in the whole thing, it's not worth setting through 20 minutes of it, let alone 77! It's completely embarrassing and I can't for the life of me understand how this movie gained the reputation it did. Please don't waste your time.

I rarely write movie reviews. But after watching this I felt an inner drive to write what I am writing right now. Its no art. This is so past psychopathic. This is insane. Whoever made the video are not humans. They condemned a fine art. This is s*it in every possible sense of the word. This stinks. Unimaginably boring. This is the most regretful thing I ever did so far. It gives new definition to the word "disgusting". I sincerely and with the bottom of my repentant heart advice every human being that reads it---DON'T WATCH IT. DON'T.DON'T WATCH IT. DO NOT WATCH IT. THERE IS NOTHING TO BE CURIOUS ABOUT. IT'D TAKE MUCH MORE THAN 100 MINS FROM YOUR LIFE AND ITS NOT WORTH IT.

Never before have I watched something so disgusting, shocking, perverted and downright wrong. Do not even bother with this film unless you can genuinely handle hardcore gore and seriously messed up themes. This one has it all- Incest, vomiting, castration, necrophilia and most disturbing of all paedophilia. The creators of this film certainly succeeded in creating something vile, something that causes the viewer to cringe (at least I hope everyone responds that way, because if not I am a little concerned)The filming itself looks very realistic and you could be forgiven for thinking you were witnessing an actual snuff film. I found the hand held style a little annoying at times, but necessary to create that realistic effect which adds that extra punch to what is a very twisted 'storyline'.I use the term storyline loosely because this film does not really have one. It's clear the characters are beyond messed up and I felt the acting was quite good. I believed the characters and I felt a deep hatred towards them, especially that of the brother. He genuinely looks insane.The gore in this film was also fantastic and they are really good at what they do. There were several moments when I had to look away. The castration scene was horrid and I do not even possess a penis! The vomiting really got to me as well, especially because I have heard that they were genuinely vomiting in that scene. I could not watch the bathtub scene. If you don't know what I mean, it basically involves one of the main characters, engaging in necrophilia with a very, VERY young girl. I enjoy messed up, but not that messed up. I feel that a personal line was crossed, and I kind of hate these guys for making such a scene. This film is exhausting, and at the end I felt kind of depressed. For that I applaud the film makers, as they did an excellent job of f*cking with my mind.
