I enjoyed watching the first two-thirds of this movie, but my interest waned when when a key figure left the scene, denying an obligatory conflict, discussion, or resolution. Also, as the movie progressed, one of the leading men spent too much time smiling while the other wore a blank expression. The movie is about incest, but it ultimately didn't have much to say about the topic. It is dreamy, but not convincing.

Since the theme of the movie is still very unusual and taboo in most parts of the world, I didn't know what to expect. But it was very well done. Showing them as kids was a good move and allowed us to have a better insight into their love. But it would've been better if they also showed at least some scenes from their teenage years and not just skip 15 years. Everything seemed so sudden. The undressing scene was really surprising and seemed unreal. I saw this trend in some other gay movies, too and I can't relate to it. For me love and passion are hugs and kisses and not just staring at each others naked bodies in the middle of the room. Of course, as many others already said before, the whole movie is a fantasy and avoids all real world problems. But the chemistry between the main actors is wonderful and it's in this movie, where I saw the best gay kiss ever (before one brother goes to Russia). I would watch it all over again just for that one scene.

I've watched Brokeback mountain. I've watched Shelter (that one was pretty good), and among other lgbt movies, I can say this movie is by far the best. For no reason other than these. The characters were played so well. Beautifully. Even small ones like the nanny or the English speaking relatives. And especially the two main characters. You can see their love for each other and it isn't like most gay relationships portrayed in movies; slutty and unemotional (or simply lacking in the emotional aspect). This was far from that. It was honestly beautiful. Extremely humane and it touches you. The movie itself was beautiful in the way it was shot. In the colors and the overall put together. I read up online and learned it was made with what's considered a small amount of green ones in movie making (2 mil), and when you realize there are movies out there that blew billions only to have made a halfway decent movie...well, that's the beauty of this movie. The soundtrack was beautiful, and if soundtracks are usually the pushing element for whether you're in our out to see a movie. Yeah. This should definitely be seen. And lastly: the relationship. Just. Wow. I only hope to find someone I can love just as much and understand on such a personal level. In fact, I think that was actually what did it for me. The way they were not only lovers, but brothers. I know it sounds weird, but it added a lot to the movie. In a good way. And I know it's a taboo subject for many. Love between step brothers, but then again. There are movies all about the sex and selling of bodies, so this doesn't seem half as bad in retrospect. I definitely recommend this movie. In fact I wish I'd never seen it so that I could re watch it for the first time.

*SPOILERS I GUESS ?* Ugh i'm so torn about this movie because honestly i'm not very emotional (unless a dog dies) but it made me cry but i watched it twice, once i was 17 and today (i'm 21)and the 1st time i taught it was a beautiful piece of art and now i still think it's beautiful but it's TOO easy and perfect to feel like something that would really happen in real life! even in fairy tales they have problems and here their mother dies and even with the close relationship they both had with her their first tough is to have sex ... like ?! what surprised me the most is that we didn't have the chance to see their relationship grow, we saw them when they were 6 and 11 and then BAM they're 22 and 27 ! like what happened during their teenage years ? did they date other people ? did they have sex before ? did they wait till 22 and 27 to have sex for the FIRST TIME?!! and with a mother so loving it's weird to think that she never asked any of them if they were gay/straight ?like u can't have your son be 27 YEARS OLD without dating anyone and be like "oh it's normal" ! so really it's hard to focus on the beauty and poetry of the movie when so many gaps remain.
