This one gave me a surprise... glad I watched it. It is scary at times - it's a Thriller but seems to be splashed with a bit of Horror. Suspenseful!! She moves into a new apartment during her divorce from an abusive husband and begins to get strange calls from an elderly woman. This is when the scares begin. This film is not graphic in any form - minor violence shown that gets it point across loud and clear. 7/10

This was almost a good movie. The premise is interesting, its creepy at times and Rachelle Lefevre does a good job with Stephen Moyer playing the boyfriend. There are lots of (obviously placed) red herrings and mind bending aspects to think about regarding changing the future by doing nasty things in the past, and the "sweet "old lady on the phone "Rose" is ultra creepy. So for a made for TV B-movie its definitely okay.Rachelle Lefevre is Mary, a recent divorcée who after moving into a new apartment begins to receive a series of increasingly harassing phone calls. At first she thinks its a wrong number (and a sweet old lady) but she comes to realize the voice on the other end of the line is actually calling from the past. This sets up a chain of events with Mary questioning everyone around her; her stalkerish ex-husband, the evasive gardener (Luis Guzman) and ultimately running for her life but (for some reason) still answering the phone. -Oh and its an old fashioned rotary phone with a very loud ringer?? The story does get a bit vague at times and people place themselves in dumb situations, the dog also did not act like a normal dog (i.e. not barking or attacking axe wielding bad guys or just plain missing) but I will blame that on the director not the dog. For the most part though I enjoyed this. I liked the aspect of changing the future by doing things in the past and there were some surprises in that respect. 2/15/15

Mary, a young woman going through a divorce, moves into a new apartment and is on the road to piece together her new life of being single. One day, when a woman calls asking for someone named Bobby, Mary simply informs her that she has the wrong number, but as the number of calls begin to escalate, they evolve into something more sinister causing Mary to become fearful that someone may be stalking her. Determined to find out who the mysterious caller is, Mary starts to look into who the previous apartment's occupants were but nothing can prepare her for what is really happening and who the calls are coming from. The Caller is another one of those "work it out for yourself" types of films because the way the story evolves as the movie goes on, you literally do have to work it out for yourself as the plot really gives you nothing as to why things are happening. It makes no sense whatsoever and while the story is pretty interesting and is a novel idea, it just tries to be far too clever and ends up failing.Aside from the story trying to be too clever, one of the other aspects of the movie that didn't make sense was the amount of information Mary gave to this mysterious, unknown caller. I don't care what anyone says, NO ONE would give out the information Mary gave out to someone they don't know on the other end of a phone. Also, the calls pass the line into harassment and threatening behaviour so 1) why wouldn't you look into changing your phone number, and 2) why wouldn't you inform the police? Of course, none of these happen in the film. Honestly, I really do have to say that the vast majority of this movie just did not make any sense, and the only things that make it watchable are the tension that some scenes create, the attempts for an original story, and the decent cast members.Other than that, The Caller is really just another mediocre thriller that fills an hour and a half when there's nothing else to do.

Troubled divorcée Mary Kee is tormented by a series of sinister phone calls from a mysterious woman. When the stranger reveals she's calling from the past, Mary tries to break off contact. But the caller doesn't like being ignored, and looks for revenge in a unique and terrifying wayOne of the reviews said this took place in Venezuela. Somehow I missed that detail and it doesn't even make sense since everyone speaks English and it sure looks like America (even tho according to IMDb this was filmed in the UK and PRAnyway, that was just an aside. From the very first scene I was pretty riveted. It's an odd story that will captivate you.The scenes with the creepy husband put a bit of a drag on the movie, but I stuck with it.There are other sort of anomalies like why doesn't she have an answering machine instead of having to rely on always answering the phone. Why is the apartment always so dark? Doesn't she have electric? And some of the scene are contrived for suspense. Also, maybe I'm just jaded, but I knew VERY early on where 90% of this movie was going. Especially with regard to the brick wall where the phone comes out.Still, it's a fairly well done film. Doesn't keep you on the edge of your seat the entire time, but still definitely worth a look.
