This amazing biblical drama chronicles the brave and historic legend of Hadassah, a Jewish orphan with exceptional beauty who rises to become Queen Esther of Persia and saves Persian Jews from genocide. By revealing her heritage to the king, Esther thwarts the evil prime minister's plan to annihilate all Jews in the Persian Empire. The annual festival of Purim is inspired by her heroism.

While this movie seems to be an adaptation of Esther, it is not. It is boring and it drags, I fell asleep it was so bad! I constantly forget that I even saw it! P.S., I wish I hadn't! There is a Veggie Tales version of this story that's 10000000000000000000000 times better-whatever that number is! Watch that 100 times in a row instead- that will be more interesting than this hollwoodized filth.

In my entire life, I have only walked out of 3 movies. This was one of them. From a production standpoint, the acting was wooden and unbelievable, the costumes were opulent, but often badly fitting, or just ugly. The makeup looks like it was applied by a beauty-school drop out. There was unnecessary amounts of cheesy, canned dialog that was painful. The relationships depicted felt fake and false, and not at all realistic or deep. The main character, Ester was childish, immature, and so overly sugary-sweet it was intolerable. Her "love" for Xerxes was awkward and unbelievable.More over, it did not come close to actually conveying the true depth and beauty of the biblical Ester story. This film took the plot points of that story and then managed to completely remove the whole soul from it. Ester's quiet strength is entirely lost.Lastly, this film is chock full of anachronisms, from Ester literacy level, to the thick American accents. It was all around bad. Please, if you are looking for a good film, look somewhere else.

Many, gave this movie a low rating because its way different from the biblical story of ester. One thing about movie commercials, they are very misleading. A lot of Christian expect this to be a combination of passion of crist and queen elizabeth. thats where the disappointment in their part.I think this movie was rather well made. the cinematography is good, acting is good, the story is average. But, this movie is an above average B movie. If you forget history, forget biblical accuracy, this movie is very good, above average, and the pace is just right. I'd recommend this to anyone that likes a good thriller drama.

Setting aside any concerns about the historical or Biblical accuracy of the movie, One Night With the King is just a lousy, poorly made movie. While the acting was mostly mediocre, the filming was worse. How much poorly-timed slow-motion can a movie contain? One Night had way too much, and was in general poorly filmed. As others have mentioned, there was little chemistry in the poorly-developed love story. The dialog was stilted and inconsistent, and the plot could be best described as mushy. I'm not exactly sure what was supposed to be happening, or why. Nor was there any emotional connection with the characters. I was glad when it was over. One positive was the costuming and scenery. Ester's costumes were lovely, although Xerxes' were somewhat terrible and everyone could have cut back on the eye makeup. The scenery captured a sense of the fantastic, with plenty of pillars, waterfalls, and lots and lots of flowing gauze. Odd cuts between scenes and strange shots didn't let these aspects live up to their potential.I don't oppose the idea of a family-friendly film, or the idea of a film based on the Bible. One Night, however, was too hard to follow and so painful to watch it's not worth the trouble.
