Living the Wholesome Life

This is one of our family's all-time favorite scout movies. The hero is such an all-around good guy. I think every mother of boys wishes that their children had leaders who were so involved and such a good influence on their boys.**Talking points - When should we defend yourself and when should we turn the other cheek. How important are good role-models? Who have been some of your role-models? How have you been a role-model to others? Let's talk infertility. Let's talk about the affects of alcohol. If you had to go to court, would you want a good lawyer?

I really appreciate this vintage Norman Tokar movie. There is always a sweetness throughout his movies, no matter what dark issues may occur in the story. I love Fred McMurray and a young Kurt Russell, to those who remember her, Lillian Gish. Now, I am no fan of the boy scouts, I think some of their more modern policies are horrible and they are teaching the wrong things. You may recognize many of the locations in this movies that have also appeared in more recent films such as country bears, Johnson family vacation, and a few others. This was one of Walt Disney's 'ranches', "golden Oak Ranch" to be exact. ""...In addition to Disney movies, including ''The Apple Dumpling Gang," "Treasure of Matecumbe," ''Pete's Dragon," and others, the Ranch has been used for "Roots II", "Bonanza," "Little House on the Prairie," "The Waltons,'' "The Muppet Movie," ''The Electric Horseman," Colonel Sanders chicken commercials, and much more...." This film was made by Disney in 1956, not 1966. I don't know how to correct the IMDb. It is an excellent film about how one's dreams may not turn out the way you wish, but yet you can have a very meaningful life along a different path. Lemuel Siddons becomes a Scoutmaster to impress a woman, thinking Scouting is temporary, yet keeps the job for 20 years, from 1930-1950, and has a tremendous positive impact on the lives of dozens of boys and the small town of Hickory. Highly recommended for any in Scouting or if you want to see a film about positive values rather than the trash that is made today. Fred MacMurray is Lem, Vera Miles is the object of his affection, Lillian Gish is an elderly woman who befriends him, and Kurt Russell is a troubled youth he takes under his wing.

I found that this movie is the best boyscout movie ever made. It has a great cast with Kurt Russell and Fred McMurray leading the amazing cast. With Vera Miles and the rest making it could holsom movie that everybody will enjoy young and old. It shows how one man can take a group of boys and send them off into the world to become doctors and even the governor of what ever state this movie is set in, and how a pull of a string can give a group of boys a great adventure. This movie is start in the early formation of the boyscout movement and ends in the early 1950. It can be seen how the troop in the movie changes through the years. It is a good movie and is a must for every body to see.
