The Brothers is a classic tale of boys becoming men.Morris Chesnut is Jackson Smith, a successful pediatrician and leading man of the crew who gets involved with Denise (Gabrielle Union) his Mom is played by Jennifer Lewis and sister is Tatiana Ali best known as Ashley from Prince of Bel-Air Shemar Moore is Terry White, womanizer and we're lead to believe he's a ladies man...which by his looks, we don't doubt. He's getting engaged to Bebe, a woman who's at the gun range 3x/wk D.L. Hughley is Derrick West who has allowed his wife to control the terms of their relationship instead of it being a partnership. He also wants to get a need fulfilled by his wife that she won't fill Bill Bellamy is Brian Palmer a womanizer in the other direction of Terry. No charm, no guile no wit...he gives up on dating black women and is trying to get through to his mother (who was on Scrubs as Nurse Laverne) So the 4 come together every week to play basketball and air out their life issues with candor and a lot of laughs! This movie is well done, and true to life as I've seen it. Great writing, storytelling is on point and the depth of the characters...at least the ones we're supposed to care about stands out among other films Great film I rate it a 9 out of 10

can you say "booty movie"?it does make for a nice rhyme, but this movie is loaded with anachronisms, chauvinism, and stereotypes.the African-American version of Hollywood still has major issues with themes and portrayals that do not do justice to the potential that exists for the industry.when Hollywood finally decides to provide equal opportunity for all filmmakers and actors, then we might see something that resembles a good film.not that there aren't or haven't been good African-American films, but there's a lot of work to do.

It was refreshing to see the male perspective on screen. Morris Chestnut is a heartthrob and came across with depth in this movie. Women tend to think we know but really we are not close. The movie made a strong statement about love and lasting relationships. Young couples both married and single need to see this message portrayed on the big screen. Movies of this nature inform our concepts of the family and what makes love worthwhile. I am a big fan of Gabrielle Union and thought she also did a fine job. Her character was witty and full of courage. Gary Hardwick has defined for himself a sure foundation in black film directing which sets the standard for all things wholesome. While it remains to be seen what he shall be, this movie spoke to the ability he has to use the big screen to tell the African American story in modern day terms. The genre is a guide for responsible and serious life decisions on issues of friendship in particular and relationships, in general.

Wow i saw this movie and thought is was quite fun to watch, and then look at the ratings here and see the majority of them are ones. Serious black films get critique harder then other films because black viewers want to have a great black film. So a movie with like this with well-to-do men, exagerated characters, and lots of mood lightening humor wont win any academy awards. But thats not to say this is a bad film. Its very good at what it tries to do. This film is enjoyable whether you are white or black.
