As far as comic book adaptation go, this one is out there amongst the worst of them. I had a bad time watching it because of how poorly it all was done. The movie is made like a B-movie, with a B-cast & crew but still the movie is visually looking like an A-list movie. It creates an enormous contracts between the visual style and actually quality of the movie. It's perhaps a reason why the works out all the more badly.Brian Yuzna made some decent enough genre movie, with movies that weren't meant as serious ones but with this movie he shows that he's a real lacking director. The movie also features some real bad editing, an horrendous musical score, stupid sound effects and bad looking gore effects. Not only the storytelling of the movie is really lacking but yes, also the actual story itself. It really isn't a solid story and there is way too little actually happening it and all in all, it just simply lacks a main plot line. Thhis is really the biggest problem of the movie. It also rips off one or two too many other movies. The movie also actually features very little action, especially for a genre movie, and the action that it does feature is done incredible bad and is just plain lame. It's obviously not Brian Yuzna's thing. It doesn't actually help to make the movie any more interesting. The movie is done quite tasteless at times, with both its gore and amount of misplaced sexuality. The cast also really didn't do a good job. Odd thing is that halve of the cast consists out of Spanish actors, who were obviously dubbed at a later point during production. But also actors such as Mark Frost and Isabel Brook do a real horrible job. No wonder they starred in so few and meaningless movies. And suddenly their characters fall in love? What was up with that. Talking about a bad placed and unbelievable love story. Oh well, at least it still had Jeffrey Combs in it.Well, yes I admit that there are even worse movies out there but that doesn't really make this a good movie either, now does it.2/10http://bobafett1138.blogspot.com/

This is a really terrible, terrible Motion Picture. The direction is inept beyond belief and the acting on the most part is appalling!Mark Frost is a bad actor, I mean really bad. Every line that he delivers is off the mark somehow and his facial expressions or contortions are hammy and ridiculous.Jeffrey Combs over acts extraordinarily and gives us a caricatured portrayal of the wisecracking hard nailed cop that has been parodied frequently. His first scene with the music therapist is vomit inspiring!!!Monica Van Campen gives the only performance of note in this picture. She is a talented actor and is the only one that transcends this awful mess. It seems that some money was spent on the Production Design, Lighting and Camera. Yet all was for nought as what you see on the screen sucks. They say you can learn more about making good movies by watching bad ones! In this case don't waste your time. It's just too crap!!

Last night the subject of comic books was discussed. I'm not sure how it started, but eventually the issue of dark heroes came up...and from this Faust became a topic. This is actually one of my favorite comic stories of all time, despite the fact that I'm not usually into extreme gore or pornographic imagery. So today I find myself looking around online, thinking of the great read and exceptional artwork. Lo and behold I ran across movie information and read some of the reviews listed here (and elsewhere). It seems the movie received some really bad reviews. I have seen the movie some years ago, and I admit it's no masterpiece...but I strongly feel that there should be some consideration. In order to enjoy the movie at all, you have to know and understand the story.First it should be said, in order to do the story of Faust justice...it would take a multi-million dollar budget. There's simply no way around it. It's also impossible to fit properly into a 90min or 2hr span.Second, the story is easily the goriest I've EVER read. And to stay true to the creators intention, the gore has to translate to the movie.Third, with the exception of a few characters...everyone in this movie is a satanist. Their lives revolve around sex and S&M. I think it would be silly to just imply that it happens...it is something that must be seen. You have to expect a cheese factor here, because otherwise this movie wouldn't even be capable of a XXX rating. (One example comes to mind, I read that a "gore porn" was recently attempted...but the "blood" was green instead of red due to the zombie nature of the film. The movie was banned, there can be no blood in porn whether it's red or not) And finally, people leaving review obviously do not understand the condition the hero is in. Yes, he is insane...or more precisely he's a tortured soul. He always had been, since childhood...or if you read the comics, even prior to birth. Sure, sounds like a stupid idea but it was actually well executed in the comic. That being said, I admit the movie was far from great. It wasn't even a great adaptation of the comic book. But it's a standing achievement that an underground comic that was boycotted and at one time even stopped production has enough of a fanbase to even BECOME A MOVIE. I sh*t you not, "hollywood" would have never touched this movie with a 10ft pole. Unfortunately it was victim to a b-movie budget and cast with b-movie (though respected) actors.Oh, and I'm just going to assume that the "heavy metal" music in use was what they could afford royalties for...because in the original comic, the music referenced to was all highly recognized work such as "papa's got a brand new bag" and "don't fear the reaper".

There is not a single original line in Faust: Love of the Damned, and, the truth is, that's not even the worst of it. Faust... is a miasma of eye-rolling sexcapades (dressed up in a way that is clearly meant to seem demonic, but that falls exceedingly short), poor and tired special effects, and a completely incomprehensible plot. Even veteran horror actor Jeffrey Combs of Re-Animator fame can't pull this movie into something watchable, although his sudden turn to the dark side is probably the only good twist in this terrible film. One almost wonders whether Yuzna used some sort of blackmail material to convince Combs to be in this dreadful flick (with an interesting pair of sideburns to boot).Faust... says nothing new about the natures of good and evil or the entity of the devil. In addition, it borders on pornographic with its senseless sex scenes and downright offensive with its portrayal of sexual abuse. Barely redeemable.
