I was worried that watching this with my teen aged kids would be too violent. I was pleasantly surprised to see that this film unlike others was not centered around senseless violence. It actually had a clever script built around a story that had you guessing right up until the end about who might be the "bad guys" in the movie. Both of my kids (they are so smart) claimed they figured out who was a secondary villain in the film.I didn't but what can I say, I missed the clues probably because I was too busy fixing them snacks.LOL I recommend this thriller/ mystery to anyone that wants to exercise their brain a bit and not be force fed gratuitous violence with a shell of a plot.Thank You for publishing my review! :)

Bought this BluRay on a recommendation from a friend. Watched it with my girlfriend, Missy, and can say both were frightened by this film because it seemed so real.We live near a penitentiary where inmates have escaped in the past. This movie brings the story so close to home that we are both thinking of moving!! LOL. Just kidding, I'm brave.I'll protect my sweetie any day against anyone. Except maybe against this Purcell guy : he is insane times 10!! Don't wanna give the story away but run like heck if this dude is on a rampage! Money well spent, Enjoy!!P.S. Don't want to p*ss off my missy, but the girls in this movie are easy on the eyes!

I love a good slasher movie just as much as the next horror fan. The sub-genre is so hit-and-miss these days. For every "Cold Prey" or "Laid to Rest," we're given 10 more entries that leave you feeling mentally drained by the time the credits roll on them. Anchor Bay Entertainment's "Escapee" is just lucky enough to fall right in the middle of good and bad in the realm of watchable mediocrity.Psychology student Abby Jones (Christine Evangelista) makes the mistake of locking eyes with a murderous patient named Harmon (Dominic Purcell) while on a class trip to the local mental institute. Unfortunately, Abby resembles Harmon's girlfriend that he brutally butchered. He escapes from the hospital and heads out in search of Abby, leaving a trail of dead bodies in his wake.Director / writer Campion Murphy put together the right ingredients for "Escapee." The problem is the formula he concocts is overused. This would be a shocking and suspenseful film had it come out in 1980. The problem is, it's a by-the-book slasher / thriller with nothing to add to the mix. Many of these types of films at least give the viewer a sense of mystery by keeping the killer a secret to the end. Murphy tries to save "Escapee" about three-quarters of the way in with a bit of a twist that comes off as desperate and ill-conceived.Dominic Purcell ("Prison Break") is perfect in the role of the towering and bulky killer Harmon. Christine Evangelista ("The Joneses") plays Abby with a perfect level of innocence and terror. Carly Chaikin ("Suburgatory") and Melissa Ordway ("90210") are perfect for Abby's stereotypical roommates. One is bratty and boy crazy while the other has a steady man and a decent life to conveniently lose to the killer. TV veteran Faith Ford ("Murphy Brown," "Hope and Faith") plays Detective Alison Jensen and also co-produced "Escapee.""Escapee" reminds me of a less thrilling version of "Halloween." You have an escaped mental patient out to get a certain girl and killing anyone who gets in his way. The problem is, there's no creepy mask and a sense of déjà vu haunts you throughout the entire movie. I consider it passable entertainment if it's the only slasher flick you can find that you haven't seen already.

"Dominic Purcell from Prison Break" with a nice big picture of him and his shaven head on the cover of the UK DVD. Wait a minute !!! He doesn't even look like this in the movie - no shaved head , no orange coloured jump suit - could this be a cynical piece of mis-advertising by any chance?? I could accept that if the movie was any good - it isn't . This is a feeble rehash. It reminded me a bit of the Black Christmas remake minus the gore with a twist of Halloween minus the scares, tension , logic etc etc. Purcell cruises through on auto pilot on a script written on the back of a matchbox. His escape is so so easy and then at the end when the ten strong police force capture him - he escapes again - oh boy. Cue a harassed detective with the chief on her back, dumb ass but good looking twenty somethings who do senseless things, the thunderstorm , the power outage, the indestructible killer, She runs , he walks - he still manages to catch her!! All this and much much more!!!........minus any scares, gore, tension or reason for watching.
