A young couple travels to the islands and discovers sexual freedom.During their stay, they encounter a young beautiful woman (Valerie Quinnesson) who involves them in a mutual love triangle. Things are going swimmingly until the mystery girl disappears. Her reason? She was afraid because she knew the vacation was going to end soon. The flick cashes in any erotic chips it has when this sexually liberated chick turns goofy and runs away. That was the lame turning point. Also, the casting of the slight Peter Galliger as the male lead was a mistake. Darryl Hannah plays his young wife, though she's too good for the role.Film is not on par with other films that deliver the chic goods that this one tries to fabricate.

A fantastic movie! I really liked it! Too bad they haven't released this movie on a wide screen FULL HD BluRay! I hope they will in the near future though. I think this is the only movie with a Menage A Trois with a happy ending I've found so far. Most movies about Menage A Trois usually end up with a break-up, cheating or other strange things. Why won't the Hollywood directors make more movies like this one? I like how the trio couple was shown having fun, dancing in clubs, drinking, going to the beach, a very beautiful scene. There's just one thing which the director could have added to this movie... making the 2 girls kiss each other and all but anyway even without that, the movie is a masterpiece which deserves to be released on BluRay, for being ONE of a kind!

I acknowledge that Summer Lovers is set in an ideal locale, a Greek Island known as Santorini, just an intoxicating place for rich tourists who have the money to rent a villa overlooking the ocean, hypnotized by the party-like atmosphere of it all. Summer Lovers has attractive stars, the boyishly handsome Pater Gallagher, the positively luminous Daryl Hannah, and the incredible magnetism of Valérie Quennessen. The film even has a proper pop soundtrack as background for the free-spirited fun these three have as Summer Lovers continues. There's simply no plot. All we really have is the vacationing couple Michael(Gallagher)and Cathy(Hannah)meeting archaeologist Lina(Quennessen), the three bonding over a summer, enjoying the good times that happen every day around the Greek village. The only real "drama" concerns how dependent and attached Michael and Cathy become to Lina, who has expressed her desire to not get too close to anyone. There's a minor conflict which happens towards the end where Lina feels pressured and takes off with a local for a little while leaving Michael and Cathy concerned and missing her so badly they decide to go home. But, pretty much Summer Lovers consists of various scenes where the three enjoy each other's company after an awkward shaky start when Cathy was a bit distanced about the idea of Michael having passionate sex with Lina. But, soon Cathy becomes okay with sharing Michael with Lina. I guess I was disappointed that Cathy and Lina didn't push Michael to the side and make-out, that's the breaks. All I was hoping for was an exchange of soft kisses between the two beauties. Anyway, if you can accept this movie for what it is, beautiful people in a beautiful place, then perhaps you can forgive it's limitations in other areas. I figure many will become so enamored with the setting, and the lovely nude bodies of Hannah and Quennessen, that concern for other aspects will be low. I have to admit, as superficial as I often am, I expected a bit more from this movie. There's no explicit sex, despite the obvious opportunities for this movie to become gratuitous if need be. One thing was for sure, this film certainly advocates for carefree lifestyles not burdened by oppression(..this is addressed particularly when Cathy's mom and aunt surprise the three with a visit, although, I found this rather amusing, and nothing ever erupts which might startle those always expecting fireworks when parents discover their kids engaged in amorous activities). I reckon this is all guilty pleasure eye candy for many who embrace it.

Amorous Michael (hunky Peter Gallagher) and his sweet girlfriend Cathy (Daryl Hannah at her most charming and delectable) are an American couple vacationing on the Greek island of Santorini. Michael has a fling with alluring, exotic and uninhibited French archaeologist Lina (the mesmerizing Valerie Quennessen). Michael tells Cathy about his infidelity and Cathy goes out of her way to meet Lina. Cathy becomes so enamored of Lina that she agrees to a menage a trois relationship. Writer/director Randal Kleiser offers a good-natured and engrossing love story between three people that works as both a happy and dynamic ode to the free'n'easy early 80's sexual revolution and a provocative commentary on preconceived notions about monogamy and so-called "normal" relationships. Moreover, Kleiser handles the copious nudity and feverish sensuality in a tasteful and matter-of-fact way; this film never becomes sleazy or exploitative despite the racy subject matter. Instead a positively infectious spirit of carefree fun and innocence pervades throughout. The three attractive leads all give appealingly warm and natural performances, with the strikingly comely, poised and charismatic Quennessen rating as the stand-out of the bunch. Barbara Rush contributes a funny cameo as Cathy's loving, but disapproving mother Jean and Carole Cook is a total hoot as Jean's cheery friend Barbara. Timothy Galfas' bright, glossy cinematography vividly evokes a palpably lush and languid sultry atmosphere. The infectiously bouncy rock soundtrack adds immensely to the bubbly, upbeat merriment. An offbeat, enjoyable and underrated little delight.
