| Thriller Crime

Tom Fiorini (Anthony Michael Hall, The Dead Zone) owns a successful construction company. After his long time foreman goes missing, events take a drastic turn for the worse. During the search for his foreman, Tom plummets down a slippery slope of violence and hired hit men, only to find the fire with which he plays is much hotter than he could have ever expected. Director Thomas Farone (Nate Dogg) brilliantly creates a haunting, emotional film with richly layered performances by its multi award-winning cast—which includes a tour-de-force by the late Chris Penn, in his final film. Absorbing and complex, Aftermath is a Cinequest 23 highlight and a stylish noir crime thriller that will have audiences talking long after.

Just make sure you watch the credits, there are some additional scenes in there.I did love seeing a few different recognizable actors in roles they don't generally do, that was fun.I would like to see this movie remade again without having to work around the death of the main antagonist, knowing that Chris Penn dies during filming makes you wonder how interesting the movie would have been had it not had to be rewritten.

Without question, "Aftermath" is one of the most inept films I have ever seen. Characters are introduced with absolutely zero development. The photographer should write a letter of apology to the audience for his headache inducing close ups of half faces. In places things are so dark it is ridiculous. Some of the bizarre camera angles are nauseating. as if this wasn't bad enough, the whole story is a so what, as characters we know nothing about, go around killing each other. This is film making at it's worst, and by the way, it is advertised as a "black comedy", which it most definitely is not. Avoid at all costs. - MERK

And seemingly for a very understandable reason. It just goes from being one type of movie to being a complete different one with little coherence. The reason for that is pretty simple Chris Penn died during the filming of this movie so the movie couldn't be finished. The director had to re-write the whole movie to make it work around the scenes that he had filmed with Chris Penn and add additional characters and sub plots. And unfortunately it doesn't work, first half runs fairly smoothly but the second half just becomes a puddle of randomness and leaves you with more questions than answers. It's not all bad, but there's not a lot good with it either. But at least Chris Penn fans will finally get to see his final performance.

This was a somewhat strange movie because it was hard to get excited by the story.I thought the story lacked a lot and it was hard to tell who was good or bad and there for who to root for.Besides the story lacking, production value looked good and the acting was above average. If your looking for a different kind of slow burn "thriller" you might wanna check this one out some time.If your looking for fast paced and action packed than you better skip this one. Also Chris Penn plays one of his last roles and it's dedicated in his memory and the best scenes in this movie are with him.If your a fan you should really see it but that goes without saying. Also feel that the title is a mismatch but I can't explain why? It's a slow thriller and it's o.k.But, just o.k.
