In order to become a member of a fraternity, the applicants have to go through initiation rituals to show their loyalty. Way back in the 1960s, someone played a nasty trick on the student Sidney Scheider: He had to take a bath in a tub filled with cornflakes and coffee grounds, vinegar and even more disgusting substances. Nothing unusual so far but someone had replaced the water with pure acid. Sidney was seriously wounded and died a horrible death. This year Acid Sid returns with a vengeance, killing everyone who comes his way. One by one is slaughtered and in the college hell breaks loose.

Definitely not the worst movie ever made, but I still found this movie to be ridiculous. I was intrigued to buy the VHS based on the cover, which is probably the only redeeming factor of this film, either that or the soundtrack by Anthrax. By watching this, I wasted 90 minutes of my life that may never be lived again.Sidney "Acid Sid" Snyder (Played by Anthrax's Joey Belladonna) accidentally died in a fraternity prank gone horribly wrong in the 1960s. 30 years later, new pledges are going through initiation rituals. In spite of his mother's warnings, one of the pledges, Larry Bonner still wants to join. During the weekend, Don, one of the senior pledges goes bananas and kills one of the fraternity brothers. Turns out, he was possessed by none other than Acid Sid, who later bursts out of Don's stomach. How original...not. Sid is basically a hippie version of Freddy Krueger who just goes around cracking jokes that I could tell better myself. Sid's real purpose in the movie, revealed at the end was a total joke.I have noticed that people have a soft spot for this film, and while I respect that, I just simply cannot begin to understand why. This was director Paul Ziller's first film, and I can understand that as well. However, it does not excuse the fact that, as CritconOnline.com said, Ziller copped out and displayed the victims' bodies after the murders. Thankfully, this film has yet to receive a DVD release.I would probably only recommend this to hardcore horror fans as well as HARDCORE (And I mean hardcore) fans of Anthrax. Otherwise, don't bother.EXTRAS: Grow some hair on that chest as a trailer for No Retreat, No Surrender 3: Blood Brothers (1990) appears at the beginning of the tape. This time, it's family!

How can you fault any movie with 2 of the best death scenes ever! Well yeah, it's a horrible movie, and I have no idea how it's not in the bottom 100. To put it this way, any people (which is everyone I meet) that I make watch this movie, wish a painful death upon me. So you should all check it out.

I'm of two minds when it comes to the smash hit horror-comedy "Pledge Night". One the one hand, it's sloppy, cheap looking, and they seemed to make the story up as they went along. But on the other hand, it has a cherry bomb exploding in a man's buttocks. So I can't make up my mind as to whether I like it or not. It's about these guys who are trying to get into a fraternity. The hazing scenes, which take up the first half of the movie, are pretty funny. There are cherries up the butt, bug-eating, butt-paddling, poop-licking, and butt-branding. (This movie is very obsessed with men's anuses. A good drinking game would be to sip whenever a guy's butt is shown or talked about, or whenever something is put inside a guy's butt). There are endless conversations about hazing and the meaning of fraternities, peppered with lots and lots of statistics. About forty-five minutes into the movie a Freddy Kreuger-rip off named "Acid Sid" shows up and starts killing the characters. Sid is really dumb. He first appears as a hand in a toilet, which should clue you in to the level of terror in this film. Sid is supposed to be the vengeful ghost of a guy who was killed in a botched hazing prank twenty years earlier. He's also a hippie, so while killing he makes "funny" 60s wisecracks like "Where's the protest?" and "This one's for Spiro Agnew!". (Why would a hippie be joining a frat anyway?)As stupid as Acid Sid was, I think I liked this movie more than I hated it. All the guys playing pledges are hilarious. My favorite was Silvera (instead of drinking an initiation epicac, he suggests "We could stick it up our @ssh*les, or rub it on our hair and bodies!"). Dirty Pledge Richard Goodman was funny too. Try not to laugh as he wanders around whispering "BODINE?" really loud, while looking straight at the camera. The key appeal of these characters is that they're all played by actors who look like regular guys with 1980s hairstyles. They all look like they could be cruising around my neighborhood in a Camaro, blaring Whitesnake on their way down to the Twist-n-Creme. The women in this movie also look like normal, small-town gals (The female lead is built like a hockey player). This has a certain appeal as well, until they start getting naked. These women should be dental assistants or supermarket check out workers, not showing me their yummies in a horror movie! And I could have done without the world's oldest stripper, who appears in a party scene in which she hits a guy on the head with her gigantic breast (the guy looks and acts just like the Club Scum MC from "Hobgoblins").In conclusion, this would make for a good evening if watched in conjunction with another, better horror flick. You could enjoy the good movie, then enjoy the first half of "Pledge Night" and doze off whenever Acid Sid is around.

Pledge Night was a horror movie night selection for me and my friends. We expected a college campus horror flick, which it is and that part sucks. The first part was a hilarious, entertaining riot. It ruled!!!! up until the point it became a lame slasher flick with an uncool killer and a terrible end. How could the director let this laugh riot turn into a crap fest. It was the most amusing college phrat flick I've ever seen and ranks up there with Animal House. It had awesome dialogue and those wacky pranks rocked, but when you see the hand come up out of the toilet part stop the movie and let that be the end. You and your friends will thank me, if not they may beat the living crap out of you and you'll deserve it if you read my warning and didn't listen. Pledge Night was a good idea that could have been a great comedy about the lengths one goes through to become a member of a fraternity, but fell way short in its attempt to copy all other slasher flicks, I applaud its originality and humor in the first half.
