Loved loved loved The Hunt for the Wilderpeople and believed this to be another funny kiwi film. But what an un-funny mess this was. During the film I chuckled twice but had to leave the cinema after only an hour before it became unbearable to keep watching. Weak characters, weak actors and an even weaker plot. This movie seemed like a good idea but it's just so poorly executed. What a shame
I saw this today and the awkwardness and inappropriateness is just right, genuinely cried with laughter a few times. Great movie and three thumbs up
Couldn't wait to see this movie! Love Flight of the Concords & all things Kiwi (even married to a Kiwi). But this movie was disgusting :-( & completely unfunny. For all those who walked out..we made it to the part where these very charming ladies were in the strip club (maybe 45 mins in?).. I salute you!PS: This movie is definitely not for children!! Do not take them to this movie!! It is nothing like Hunt For The Wilderpeople.
A solid NZ film - with a comic sensibility that is variously awkward, dark, subversive, and squirm-in-your-seat vicariously embarrassing (in the best possible way). I can easily imagine this film appealing to Australian or British audiences, who have similar comedy traditions (think Norman Gunston, Kath & Kim, Little Britain, The League of Gentlemen).
