I love all types of horror movies. Movies with ghosts, teenage camp-counselors getting killed, intruders in your dreams, devil worship, monsters, zombies, stalkers, murderers, etc . . . Anything with apparitions, suspense, violence, killings, shocking moments, jolts, and gore. But none of these elements work unless they are accompanied by at least a few good actors, likable characters, half-way decent continuity, and semi-believable situations. In the gore department, Deadly End (Neighborhood Watch) delivers. Unfortunately, it ends there. Characters and situations are unrealistic and annoying. Young "Wendi" whines about everything and is afraid of her own shadow. I couldn't help but laugh when she hid in a box and didn't come out even though her husband was home looking for her! I also shook my head at the implausibility of Bob's lack of concern for his old neighbor when she crashed in his yard. And the diarrhea trail (yes, we are treated to a trail of poop!) that Bob leaves atwork is cartoonish! There are police who ignore break-ins and poisonings. During the neighborhood watch meeting, neighbors are flat caricatures who defend the psycho who proceeds to kick a life-support plug and calls Wendi a C***! ! And did anyone notice that the perverted power-guy and the psycho (Adrian), both had huge dark rings under their eyes that look drawn on. They both acted alike, so I guess that crazy people can be identified by dark circles under their eyes! And how hard is it to figure out that the flowers from the psycho caused Wendi's poison oak reaction? I knew it as soon as the doctor mentioned poison oak. And I'm not a doctor, but how overdone was Wendi's allergic reaction to the oak? She looks like a severe burn victim or a monster. Yes, the poop on the pants, the barfing, the flaking and pus on Adrian's face, and the surgical hole in Adrien's side are truly disturbing. And as far as shocking the audience with gore, the finale delivers. That said, don't expect good acting, believable situations, or any realistic ambiance to this movie. The sets are minimal and the fire engine scene is so low budget it resembles a high school play. This movie could have rocked with the right budget and actors. As it stands, it just disappoints.

Notable for being the first (and perhaps only) film ever to be released by Charles Band's Lunatic releasing, a label for freaky movies that he played no part in other than seeing their potential and thus distributing. The main cast here are really watchable with attractive couple Bob and Wendi (British actor Jack Huston and American actress Pell James) taking the lead as a peace wishing young couple terrorised by local former Sherrifs son and madman, Adrien (Nick Searcy - also very good). Some of the other actors are a little out of their depth, such as an older couple who are the only other neighbours that know Adrien is trouble. There are silly bits such as when Bob becomes blind and says to a pregnant and in pain Wendi that he is going to get help (he is blind!) despite not being able to manoeuvre around the bed even. The film is nowhere near as gory as some reviews suggest presenting only the odd moment of horrid footage. The scene of Adrien penetrating a stomach wound with his finger whilst torturing his testicles is gross but not overly explicit. With such handsome leads and other qualities like a great score (a little reminiscent of Richard Band Puppet Master music) and cinematography this could have been a lot better. I feel director, Graeme Whifler, has to take the blame for the films failure to be as exceptional as it could have been. Ultimately Whifler is a naive director and writer, wanting to squeeze so much cliché and value in to each frame that his work becomes at worst a mindless bore and at best this, an interesting film primarily saved by its daft but enigmatic leads. If you love the film it is well worth checking out Graeme Whifler's other writing efforts, 'Sonny Boy' and 'Dr. Giggles' as both are equally disappointing. Fair.

Going into Neighborhood Watch, I really knew nothing about it. A year or two ago it had some nice hype surrounding it, but somehow it stayed pretty damn elusive....well, to people who don't have the means, if ya know what I mean. But thankfully, a pal of mine gave me the opportunity to view this, and I'm happy to say this film delivered the goods. The story revolves around a husband and wife who move into their new home, he's got a new job and she's happy decorating the house. All seems well until they meet their neighbor Adrian. Let me just say before Adrian appears on screen the movie is slightly tedious, not so entertaining and the feel of it's low-budgetness is really evident. But the actor who plays Adrian brings an over-the-top insanity that was really a fun ride witnessing. Like what Evol said in his review, this movie delivers some really good laughs. It's dark comedy at it's darkest, and when delivered by this goofy, insane character, it's really a nice treat.Overall the movie isn't really amazing, but with it's dark themes and dark humor, Neighborhood Watch turned out to be a very welcome addition to the weird world of horror. Definitely give this movie a shot if you enjoy low budget films that are weird and most definitely sick. 7.5 outta 10

This is one of the 5 worst movies I've ever rented. It is poorly written... the dialogue is absolutely horrible. Not to mention the plot (which lacks any real substance). We're supposed to believe that this couple moved across the country for the husband's "dream job" (which seems to be more of a nightmare... what kind of career ambitions does this guy even have?), and that the police would just ignore the couple's complaints because their psychotic neighbor just happened to be the son of a former mayor. Please. This movie reeks of cheezy implausibilities that make it more of a comedy than a "horror movie." (Like any couple would actually be that pathetic and unwilling to stick up for themselves.) The acting was also laughable. I found it far more difficult to force myself through some of the "normal" scenes of the couple's everyday life, than the 'gross' parts which I also found less than believable). And hat's off tho to the hubby's boss-lady for turning in the most whore-iffic performance of the film... was that walk supposed to be sexy? because it kinda made my d*** hurt. All in all, this movie was not worth the time or money put into watching it. And I'd have to give it a 10 on the "Suck-o-meter" (that is, it sucked so hard that it made my unborn child sh*t blood.)
