In this drama, Gillen gives personality to a parent who goes trough the painful process of losing an adolescent son. This comments may be contains spoiler. This process as such is lived with nostalgia, reproach of his ex wife and escapism linked with alcohol.Still, a disturbed child attracts the attentions of Tom Carver (Gillen), who sympathizes and tried to help, creating a friendship between them that brings a little hope in the life of Carver.Simultaneously a street episode, related to a gang of teenagers, is becoming a nightmare, affecting all his relationship. Tom lost in concern, finds support in his particular friend, together resolved to make a decision that changes unpredictably the course of things...One aspect to note is the impeccable direction of Simon Blake, in this drama you have the feeling of being part of it, given the excellent acting performance. The director/screenwriter and protagonist respect the characters and narrative never fall into facilities of dialogue, although it's undeniable that in some situations the images speak for themselves and silence is an essential part of the story. Feelings sway in static scenes , memories that trigger and that are aesthetically portrayed.Music and photography express an accompaniment and visual aesthetics that enhance the message of the work and its singular focus. In conclusion, intense drama, excellent acting work, with the additive of a growing psychological thriller.

Aidan Gillen and Amanda Mealing carried this difficult film in my eyes. However, I am still wondering why I watched it entirely on Netflix. Perhaps I was pulled in by the cinematography and other technical aspects. It is an overplayed subject in a time when urban youth crime has become a chronic condition without creative solutions. This film offers no new insights. Parental alcoholism, poverty and broken educational systems are all truly at the root of teen ignorance, substance abuse and gratuitous violence. So what?I rated the film based on the performances, which excelled despite the uninteresting screenplay. The art direction succeeded at conveying disgusting and grimy. The sound was also more interesting than the screenplay. The film presents an unrecognizable London, which is an achievement in itself.

A gripping thriller that describes the slow loss of control of a man over his life during a short space of time, as he grieves for his dead son and a chance encounter with a local gang member.I went into the cinema to watch this with little knowledge or fore-warning of how demanding this would; the emotion, the drama, the violence.Thoroughly watchable and fascinating, this film takes you on a roller-coaster of London and the characters that inhabit the urban landscape.A wonderful piece of debut film from Blunt Pictures and Producer Colette Delaney Smith, this has won many awards - and rightly so! I look forward with much anticipation to their follow up work.

Great movie - beautifully shot and very well cast and acted. I loved that it's mostly set in King's Cross and I loved the colour palate - the colours reflect the conflicts - dark and menacing at times. Orange night skies - do you see that outside of London? It felt very real. You feel caught up in the story from the very beginning, you want everything to work out for the best but you fear the worst. It's a well told story, you don't like everything about the characters or what happens to them and how they react to certain situations but you can't look away - you find yourself rooting for a happy ending - you care about what happens. It's a difficult film to watch in parts but it's well worth it - my friends and I were talking about various aspects of the movie days later. If it weren't for the redemptive ending - an epiphany that leads to reconnection with compassion and humanity, it would be a hard film to handle. Very powerful. I want to watch it again. Cx
