Everyone has, at some point, wondered what lurks in dark corners and abandoned tunnels within a city's underground subway system. Well Franka Potente gets to find out exactly what's down there in the murky and atmospheric horror flick Creep, and trust me it ain't pretty. Potente plays Kate, a girl on her way home from an office party in the heart of London. Harassed and stalked by a no good coworker, she dips into a derelict train, and her attacker follows. Suddenly, somethin crawls out of the dark, murders him and drags his corpse off into the night. Kate goes from the frying pan into the fire as she realizes that whatever this thing is, it's really not something you want to be stuck in a labyrinth of desolate subway tunnels with. I won't spoil too much, but the Creep himself is a repulsive deformation whose origin I'll let you see for yourself. The actor who plays him is terrific though, admittedly a maniacal monster, but almost a little bored and jaded by his situation and just dryly going through the motions, which proves to be oddly amusing. That's not to say he's not dangerous or smart though, as Kate repeatedly finds out, fleeing through the dark accompanied by a terrified homeless couple. Potente is riveting in anything, and she seems to seek out more intense fare to star in, always taking her performance to the extreme without ever losing that gravity that I love so much in her work. This one will put you through a wringer, all across the board. It doles out gross out horror, eerie chills and suspense in equal measures. Solid horror.

Kate decides to leave a party, to try and meet the actor George Clooney who is in London. She waits for the last tube, but she falls asleep on the platform, missing the last train and being trapped in the London Underground. Later, a train going to the depot stops at the platform. She boards the train and she meets her 'friend' Guy from the party, who tries to sexually assault her in the car. Guy is attacked, and dragged off. This is the beginning of Kates night in the Underground......Improbably like this film more than I should, due to the simple fact that saw this opening day in London, and saw many of the stations that were featured in the movie. Smith is a compelling director who makes the most of the Underground. So much, that it almost becomes a character in itself.Potente is brilliant as Kate, and the minimal cast give that movie an unnerving sense of claustrophobia. After all, the Underground seems pretty small at the platform, but it's a vast body, and anything could be down there as this proves. It's a shame it's not more well known, as it's one of the better British horrors of the last ten years, The titular character is brilliantly played by Harris, and despite its iffy origins, his being is terrifying.I really like this movie. I find my self going back to it quite often, and the last shot of Kate, almost breaking the fourth wall realising that no one will believe her night, even though if she had met Clooney they wouldn't have believed her anyway, is a smack in the face of an ending.

WARNING: This is not a "complete synopsis" review summarizing the movie and criticizing the acting. If you've wanted such a review - I respectfully suggest you seek another review.I am not a movie critique, not even a cinema student. I'm your average "pls mess with my head!" horror fan, and a huge one. I think I wouldn't be exaggerating if I said I've seen around 90% of all the horror films of the past two decades or so. This one, imho, is one for the pantheon. In the horror / psych-thriller genre - one can easily differentiate between the crazed charismatic intellectual antagonist (i.e. Hannibal Lecter, "Jigsaw") and the slasher-monster-freak (i.e. Jason Worhees, Freddy Kruger). I'm a great fan of the latter. For instance, I really liked the characters portrayed by Kane in "See No Evil" and by the "Butcher" in the 2008 version of "Train"/"Terror Train" (couldn't find the guy's name...).However, having watched Creep - I have found the scariest, creepiest and most disturbing Killer-Freak of them all. Sean Harris's performance in this film is no less then dumbfounding, shocking and astonishing. In this day and age, the feeling of fear, frustration, helplessness and disgust is often delivered to us through close ups of dismembered body parts and medical pornography. Not so in Creep. Here - one feels revolted merely by looking at "the creep". Great way to make the audience feel a pinch of the unpleasantness experienced by the characters in the story. Honestly, if you can look at the guy and remain calm - you're tougher than I am :) Some of you might disagree, and I respectfully accept that. However, if you ask me? Regardless to the plot (that isn't the most original one nor the most brilliant, though not the worst!), the acting and any other aspect of the movie, I for one will never forget this film. "Craig" aka The Creep is my number one monster/freak horror character of all times!

It was laughable and, for that reason, entertaining. Watch it if you like to make fun of bad horror movies. This movie has potential, a good setting and a seemingly scary monster. But instead the director decided that he wants to make the movie as schizophrenic as possible and then, for laughs, tack on lousy commentary. The movie is centered around an obnoxious German brat, who passes out in the subway after a half shot of vodka, and is trapped inside. She quickly finds out that she isn't alone, but rather she shares the tunnels with several drug addicts, a drug dealer, a monster, and probably a hundred other subway customers who closed their eyes for a couple minutes and got abandoned in the tunnels by clueless subway guards. After the monster kills several of these characters (and in doing so prevents rape), he captures the German bitch and locks her in a cage with the drug dealer. The duo quickly escapes the cages, and run through an abandoned surgery ward...in a subway station...connected to the sewer...? I guess the director figured he would explain the origin of the monster, by throwing a ton of loose ends at the audience. Our dumb heroine and gutless drug dealer, then fight the "monster," and our heroine walks out of the subway tunnels with a dog. The director then slaps the remaining audience in the face with a sad attempt at social commentary.
