The title is not misleading, but it is not telling anything about the story either. For what it is, it works well, pure action, nice settings, based on true events I don't know (not confirmed, since it is classified), but still a good action movie.Killer elite might be putting it over the top, it is a film about assassins or killers for hire and how they help each other or try to if something goes wrong, even though they properly shouldn't. The always hard hitting Jason Statham is the main person in this and he gets accompanied by other big names such as Robert De Niro, Clive Owen and Dominic Purcell. They actually form a good team and are all bad-asses, but off course Jason is the most bad-ass and the most kind hearted also, so he can't just stay away when his mentor is captured, he has to help out and that means getting back in business. As always with Jason Statham, there is action and fighting for every penny's worth, it is entertaining and a lot is going on, but I would classify it as action entertainment like all the rest, there is nothing really special about it.

A killer for hire is sent on a mission to rescue his old mentor.Starring Jason Statham, Clive Owen and Robert De Nero.Screenplay by Matt Sherring. Based on the novel by Ranulph Fiennes.Directed by Gary McKendry. This is an average shoot them up action movie. The action sequences and the cinematography are pretty good. I liked the whole eighties theme and it is convincing. The plot is nothing new. It's an average action movie plot with a few twists and turns towards the end but nothing that hasn't been done before. The big let down was the acting. The two main leads were unconvincing and pretty wooden but I guess that's quite normal in a lot of action movies of this type. Robert De Niro was completely wasted. For an actor of his talents to appear in this with nothing but a bit part is quite sad. was he just after a pay day?An average action flick but instantly forgettable.7/10

I watched this movie for the first time on DVD last night, as a friend of mine was telling me what a great film it was. My expectations were not very high. After watching it, i found that what i was expecting was what i got. We have been bombarded with these action pictures for years now. Loads of violence, blood, explosions. The tough guy actors grunting their lines and pulling faces. Of course a beautiful young lady is thrown into the picture for good measure. Arn't people a little bit tired of this nonsense, because i am. The annoying thing for me about this film, is that it is passed as a true story. Clive Owen is a good actor and i think his talents can be used for better things. His scenes with Jason Straitham were a bit similar to Mel Gibsons Scene in The Expendables 3 with Stallone. Like Gibson with Stallone, he acted Straitham of the screen. Just like Stallone, Straitham can't act for toffee.Robert De Niro as usual brought a strong presence to the film, as he always does, but he has come down over the years. His performances in the past such as Taxi Driver, The Mission, True Confessions, were outstanding, but then as Charlton Heston once said, why does such a fine actor after he did Goodfellas wanted to keep playing Las Vegas hoods all the time and i Always noticed he was always using the f.. word even in his small cameo in The Good Shepherd. No sorry, this film for me is just something to watch on a rainy day in the living room if you have nothing special to do.

I quite liked this, it has a different vibe and wasn't your typical Hollywood action thriller filled with huge stunts and shoot-outs just for the sake of (although there is still a ton of action.) Inspired by a true story this has an intriguing plot and great locations with Statham playing a former black-ops agent who is forced back into action when his mentor (DeNiro) is taken captive by an Arab sheik. In order to free him he must kill three members of Britain's elite SAS, responsible for the death of his sons.I actually enjoyed DeNiro here which I haven't been able to say about him in ages and Clive Owen does a great job too. Statham is always a good time and Killer Elite contains one of my all-time favourite fight scenes of his, which sees him tied to a chair, still kicking ass and then throwing himself out a window, it's awesome. Although I will say that for the most part he tones things down, with more realistic, less choreographed and showy fights, even losing a couple. 8/18/14
