"Black Sheep" doesn't lose its appeal upon several watchings. I have seen it four times so far, and I am still thoroughly entertained by it. Why? Well, because it is sheer and straight forward fun and over-the-edge dark comedy. The story is about some shady experiments being performed on sheep somewhere in the rural New Zealand farmlands. And as luck would have it, protesting activists steal a hazardous sample from the lab and accidents follow in its wake. A strange infection starts to afflict man and sheep alike."Black Sheep" has a lot of dark comedy to its storyline and the visuals are actually quite good. And for a movie of this caliber, then the special effects are really nice and work out so nicely. There is just something very odd and uniquely distinctive to the movie, and that is what makes it work out so nicely.Sort of think "Shaun of the Dead" meets a New Zealand sheep farm, then basically you have the outlay for "Black Sheep". The movie is fast-paced, with lots of fun scenes and dialogue. Plus the characters in the movie are nicely fleshed out as well. This horror-comedy is a definite must watch for fans of the genre. You will never look at a sheep in the same way again after having seen this movie...

I must say, this is simply the greatest film ever made! Seriously, the plot is absurd, I can't really tell because of the accents, but the acting seems off at times, there's no special effects or ground breaking cgi or anything of that nature. But..., the astoundingly absurd premise of genetically altered sheep attacking and eating people, while turning some into "weresheep," is so incredibly stupid, it's awesome. There are so many WTF moments. There are many LOL moments. Watch when the people are attacked by a killer sheep in a moving truck. Then, watch the scene where a scientist is attack while disposing of remains. This movie should get the, "Best Movie Ever Made Anywhere," Oscar.

...as befits a tongue-in-cheek B-movie horror comedy about ovine monsters, "Black Sheep" turns out to be a bit different from what its trailer represents, but that's not a bad thing. The leads are strong (if otherwise unrecognizable to American audiences, and so what?), pretty much across the board, and production values are high, with very nice camera-work by (predominantly second-unit) DP Richard "Avatar" Bluck, fine fx work from Weta "LotR" Workshop, and solid helmsmanship from Kiwi writer/director, Jonathan King, who wisely surrounded himself with plenty of talented people with whom he's previously worked. There's a droll sense of humor that permeates "Black Sheep," and, for me at least, it worked nicely. It's not quite in the same league as films like "Shaun of the Dead" or "Dead Alive" or "Fido," but that doesn't detract from its charms. Its tale of woolly experimentation gone awry mines a great deal of familiar territory (I won't bore what few readers I'll get here with yet another recap), but the central conceit of docile ruminants transformed into carnivorous beasties along with their human prey leaves plenty of room for thematic jokes (eg. the effects of mint jelly on weresheep) within the beautiful environs of New Zealand. Recommended to fans of the comedic horror genre; those looking for serious chills will be disappointed.

A movie with killer sheep in it. How can you go wrong with this? Well, it's not like they messed things up, they just however did far too little with its main premise.Thing you can blame the movie mostly for is the approach it's taking with things. Obviously they went for a more comical approach with the movie but however problem is; the movie just isn't very funny. It has some very simple comedy in it, which just isn't being very clever, original or even really funny. The movie has far too little else going besides its comedy. Horror-wise you can't even take this movie seriously at all, just like the film-makers also didn't take this project very serious. The writers came up with far too little original, surprising or funny. It's what makes this movie a very flat and formulaic viewing experience. This is a very disappointing aspect about this movie, especially when considering its promising premise. If only the movie either would had been more fun or more scary and gory, this would had been a real great movie to watch.Yes, the movie does has gore but it often seems more to be put in there for its comedy-effect. I actually think the movie could had still been an effective horror, as weird as that may sound, if only they had used its killer sheep more original and effective. It's actually a quite scary sight seeing a whole bunch of sheep stampede down a hill but as soon as the sheep attack, the real sheep are being replaced by some obvious hand-puppets. All of the scene's with the real sheep are just great and they must have had some real great animal trainers in involved with this movie but all of the moments with the fake sheep just aren't solid and convincing enough. It obviously wasn't a very expensive movie and this at times can also be seen back in some of the movie its more clumsy moments, or perhaps this was also due to the inexperienced director Jonathan King, who also didn't got the best out of his actors. It's acting, stupid dialog and not likable enough characters are also all reasons why this movie doesn't work out as well as the movie potentially really could had.Still watchable, mostly still due to its main premise but it just isn't the fun or great, original movie you perhaps expect it to be, after reading its title or seeing the cover.5/10http://bobafett1138.blogspot.com/
