I'd like to start with my biggest gripe - the ending of this film sucked beyond belief. You were told the ending right at the start with a flash cut in the opening credits. Then the little bit of an ending after the flash cut is just plain silly and badly placed. It would have been cool earlier and with more movement. I'm trying not to spoil the ending but the film would have been a million times better if the ending went further. The rest of the film was good and shocking. The story was copied but the script and direction as well as the stunning acting made up for the unoriginal plot. It is worth a watch so long as you know that the ending is going to be very disappointing. Some scenes are shocking and disturbing and the social aspect is very well told. Overall disappointing though.

A-Z Horror Movie of the Day..."May" (R - 2002 - US)Sub-Genre: Psycho/GoreMy Score: 7.8Cast=6 Acting=8 Plot=7 Ending=9 Story=8 Scare=8 Jump=6 F/X=8 Psycho=10 Gore=8A lonely young woman traumatized by a difficult childhood, and her increasingly desperate attempts to connect with the people around her."So, are we like best friends now that you've seen what's in my freezer?" She really pushed that Pretty to Crazy ratio to the limit!! It started off slow and was just plain weird. Once the case broke, so did May. It was at this point that the violence ensued and the movie hit a whole other level!! When you watch this one...just remember, If you can't find a friend, make one!!!

This movie was on Xfinity on demand and available on my Kindle. I was aware of it for a long time because the trailer was on my VHS copy of "House of 1000 corpses" which I watch every Halloween.First off, it feels like an indie flick with it's non self-consciousness and quirky (though very effective) musical score. It has a cast of unknowns who, except for Ana Faris, have stayed unknown. But of course that doesn't take away from the quality of the acting and direction which is top-notch for what must have been a low budget. The best thing to say on the story is that it's a modern day take on a Frankenstein tale combined with a young girl version of Taxi Driver. For the first hour it has a languid pace which is the reason for the word tedious in my review title. But it holds your interest and of course there's a payoff at the end.Gore fans might be disappointing because there are very sparing quantities of that, just enough to get the story across. But for fans of intelligent horror that makes you feel something (other than shock or disgust) this one is very worthwhile.

May Dove Canady (Angela Bettis) was friendless as a child. Her lazy eye forced her to wear an eye patch. Her mother gave her Suzie the doll telling her that she could make her own friends. As an adult, she gets her eye fixed and tries awkwardly to be more social with Adam Stubbs (Jeremy Sisto). She's fascinated with his hands. Her Lesbian coworker Polly (Anna Faris) is attracted to her. She feels let down by both of them. The kids at her school destroy her doll Suzie. She decides to make her own friend sewing together various parts. It's a fascinating character in a horror indie. This is better than most of the low budget horror that gets made. It all boils down to the character and the performance from Bettis. The rest of the cast are also terrific. It's not a scary horror but it is a disturbed character study.
