The beginning does not feel like a teenage drama/movie about dancing at all. It feels really mature. What follows might seem like a bit of a downfall from that, but it really shouldn't be watched like that. Try to enjoy what is coming next. Especially because for a movie about dancing the story is decent enough. And I should mention that Megan Good(e) is playing in this! If you don't know her, you missed out. While she only had a minor role in "Brick", she alone should be reason enough (for male viewers) to watch this. Right now (2013/14) she's doing a lot of TV if I'm not mistaken, which is almost a shame, but here she has bigger role, even if she has not that much to do (unfortunately! She should've been dancing too imho).

Alright let's get this straight...last night my girlfriend actually got me to see this movie that was ''SOOOOOOOO BRILLIANT SO FUN AND SOO GOOD'' ...So Damn !! I just watched it, who actually would refuse to see a movie that someone tells you is good...well Don't DO IT, just don't watch stomp the yard ...first of all, the plot is very easy to figure out, and by easy I mean like 10 minutes after you pushed the start movie button... You see this black guy who always danced and stuff..his cousin gets killed by some white ass guy who had been defeated in a break dance competition ...(omg wtf, it's like killing someone for having lost at chest ....eeew...) and after that the black guy doesn't want to dance anymore but you actually know he will, only by the title of this piece of garbage...So after that, the main character called DJ goes to a new city a new school, you know a really really original introduction to a movie... So it's really easy to know at the beginning that DJ is gonna be the leader of a break dance team, he's gonna have to defeat a rival break dance team, Screw the other team's captain girl, and make his cousin special move to win the competition... I know I only bitched at the movie, but it his hard to describe how bad it is... SO I will only tell you what was good, the main title and the ending credits.... for anything else... the acting is bad, the plot is bad, the main story is bad, it deserve minus 1000000, it's almost worst than Paris Hilton's the hottie and the nottie... don't rent this, don't watch this just act like you've never heard of it....

The only reason I saw this movie is because I was at a sleepover birthday party, everyone else wanted to watch it, and I was in the minority. I expected it to be bad, and it was. First of all, whoever wrote the script has absolutely no talent. It's almost as if the screenwriter took every cliché he or she could think of and put them into a movie: it has a young man from the inner city trying to prove himself to rich people, it has a pivotal murder of a close family member (in the inner city, of course), a Romeo-and-Juliet-type romance between the inner city guy and a (gasp!) rich girl...all of these have been in numerous movies, and I'm sick of seeing them again and again. Also, not surprisingly, I COULD SEE ALMOST EVERY MOMENT OF THE MOVIE COMING. I think it's safe to say that there are few movies out there more predictable than this one. The dialogue was also yet another clichéd aspect of the movie. I mean, seriously, how many times have we heard words to the effect of "We're a team!" "I have to live my own life, Daddy!"? Lots, I'm sure. And lastly, the movie resorts to cheap tricks, like putting the main character's love interest in lots of unnecessarily revealing clothing, hoping to distract you from the fact that everything else is fairly uninteresting. What stops me from giving this movie a 1 is the cinematography and the dancing, the only likable parts of the movie, as far as I'm concerned. But trust me, there are much, much better dance movies out there.

I just recently watched this movie and I actually have to say, I was a bit impressed. I went into this movie with low expectations, assuming it would be pretty bad. However, that wasn't the case at all! The movie is surprisingly pretty good. The movie has a good soundtrack and some pretty awesome dance sequences that make you want to get up and dance. The acting is pretty good as well considering they're all pretty much dancers/musicians. The story line keeps you interested, yes it is a bit predictable at times, but most of these type of films are. This film has a little bit of everything in it, good plot, conflict, romance, comedy, drama. If you enjoy films of all types, I would recommend this movie to you. The movie does a good job of showing us the tradition of stepping while adding an inspirational feel. Showing a young African American go from having his brother killed on the streets to making a name for he and his partners at the collegiate level. Solid film, with some great dance sequences. Sad that it is sitting on a 3.2 rating.
