Seriously, this reminds me of that stupid Ryan Reynolds movie where the guy is buried alive, thinks he is going to get rescued, and ends up buried alive. So, two people are left behind in the water, struggle to survive, and then are eaten alive/drown. Isn't that nice? This is what you invest your time in, watching people flounder and die horribly. What kind of people come up with this dreck, and who green lights it? How much better this could have been if being adrift was just part of the adventure, and maybe they do get rescued, but by some evil creeps that they have to figure out how to get away from.See, I improved it 500% in just a few minutes. But no, Hollywood is so brain dead, and audiences are so brain dead they'll just watch anything, no matter how morbid, dreadful and senseless it is.Screw this movie, and the people that enjoy films like this.

It's good and interesting up to the end when they stop their backstroke to the yonder buoy for a snack of jolly ranchers at which point the man finally gets gotten by sharks. Why would you stop for something stupid like that when you're obviously well on your way to pseudo safety? It's based on a true story so I don't know if it's just assumed they pulled that or what. The jolly ranchers could definitely wait. You're making yourself obvious that you're an animal by floating stationary for awhile, then swimming for a ways, then stopping again.

People thought this was a good movie?Sorry to say but all these positive reviews, in my opinion, as false advertising. Never have I been as bored through a movie. Never in my life. We have two people trapped in the middle of the ocean, talking to each other, and that's it. The plot? "Two scuba drivers are trapped in the ocean, surrounded by blood thirsty sharks." I'm sorry? Nothing shark related happened until 40 minutes into this hour and 19 minute movie. Nothing happened of actual excitement until an hour into the movie. The ending was nothing special and answered no questions whatsoever. Based on the true story this is based off, I guess that neither of them survive. The only reason I continued to watch this were the beautiful cinematography shots and that's the only reason this got three stars from me. If it was movie alone, this would be a 0-1 star straight away. This entire movie is just close ups of them bobbing along in the ocean, occasionally crying or sometimes they have some actual drama or someone yelling in pain at something that no one can actually see. The entire dialogue was weak, and the outburst of one of the characters just made me roll my eyes. The acting in this was poor, and I have never seen such horrible characters on screen before. They were dull, completely one dimensional and had nothing to them that made me like them, nor feel like these could be real people. Considering this was based off of the true story of Tom and Eileen Lonergan in 1998, the characters should have felt like real people."This movie was supposed to be suspenseful!" Well the movie creators were absolutely terrible at creating that suspense. If this had been done in a short, then maybe it would have worked better. But the continuous same frames and constant characters in the water just got boring. The suspense was good at first, when they're looking for the boat at the start of the movie (anyone else notice they were in the shadow of the camera boat when looking for it?) but after that it just slowly dissipated into boredom. There was barely any suspense after this. When we have the scene at night, the suspense begins to grow, but then we don't get to see anything at all and it just becomes audio boredom instead.Overall, this movie was a massive fail. It could have been so much better and so much more interesting. It has so much promise, but it's just… pathetic. It was an hour and 19 minutes, and I felt like it took me three or four hours to get through this. I really regret watching this and I definitely will not be watching Open Water 2: Adrift.

OPEN WATER is a film that strives to be the next BLAIR WITCH PROJECT – i.e. an extremely low budget frightener, filmed without special effects or known actors on low-key hand-held cameras and the like. While I loved BLAIR WITCH, OPEN WATER turned out to be a massive disappointment, especially since I'd heard stuff like "the scariest shark movie since Jaws!" Nothing like. Instead, this is a bit of a mess of a film; it's obvious that the intentions are good and, with the right script, this could have been a fantastic piece of indie film-making. What we're left with is a film in which two obnoxious and stupid characters tread water in the ocean for an hour. There's no believable dialogue, only stilted, cheesy lines; our characters display no redeeming qualities whatsoever, making it impossible for the viewer to care about their plight. Perhaps if they'd made any effort whatsoever – to get to the boats, to swim in the direction of dry land – then we could have admired them, sympathised even; instead these are two brainless Americans who prefer to moan and complain and wait to die. I half thought this was a bit of satire on US culture but I'm not too sure...As I've already said, this film's trappings are good. The low budget nature of the proceedings give it a level of realism on par with BLAIR WITCH. Director Chris Kentis handles things well and the scenes with the real-life sharks swimming around are done very well, with more than a few frightening moments. Other moments, like the jellyfish attack, show real promise and are an example of 'what could have been'. Sadly, the actors aren't up to the job; Ryan and Travis never reach a level higher than amateur. The script stinks and the viewer ends up watching the screen, shouting at the characters to do something – anything. The guy, especially, should be ashamed of himself for being such a coward and failing to act and help save him and his wife. In the end, Kentis has to resort to gratuitous nudity in a desperate ploy to try and grab the viewer's attention. The low-key ending is a let down considering what has come before but I admit I liked it, purely because I breathed a sigh of relief that the film was over.
