I can't believe how people criticizes this movie. I can't believe you people! This movie is awesome. The first movie is the best one sure, but this one is also great movie too. It has apocalyptic cult who are making ritual murders supernatural killers, religious church i am catholic my self, great movie. I read awful reviews on IMDb I can't believe how can they say bad things to a sequel to a great movie.I bought this movie on DVD and i don't regret it at all. I only wish i could got the first one too. Crimson Rivers 2: Angels of the Apocalypse (Les rivières pourpres II - Les anges de l'apocalypse) It is about ritual murders from monks called them self's Angels of the Apocalypse they think the new world will open with the book, great actors and great movie. It could be a little better like was the first one but whatever. It is good movie and i also noticed that you did not just rent this movie bad you also rent the first movie poorly too. You people have really bad taste in movies, shame on you. Les rivières pourpres II it has also Jean Reno in it i am so glad he is in it and i love this movie and i am not listening to you I am listening to my self. I am giving it 10 stars for awesome European movie. Great job! I also love movies like are ritual murders this one is the only one i remember right now. It reminds me on The Name of the Rose with Sean Connery and Christan Slater and From Hell i love these movies about ritual murders. 10 stars.

It seems that contemporary filmmakers find it difficult to deal seriously with religion. It's much easier to latch on to something in the Bible that they don't quite understand (the Ark, Mary Magdalene, the book of Revelation) and try to create supernatural thrillers under a cloak (in this film's case, a LITERAL cloak) of religiosity. This film is never quite sure what genre it wants to belong to. Is it just a bloody horror show, or an apocalyptic thriller, or perhaps even a post-WWII neo-Nazi conspiracy film? You might think any of the above, depending on when you started watching. There is some wonderful scenery from the French/German border area, along with astounding stunt work and adrenaline-rush chase scenes. But the plot never clicks, and the ending, although full of excitement, is empty of meaning and resolution. The underground scenes, drenched in water, almost made me wonder if Jeunet took over the direction at that point.Jean Reno and Christopher Lee are both thrown away in their generic roles as tough cop and dastardly villain. Lee's final scene is such a blatant ripoff of the end of RAIDERS OF THE LOST ARK that I wonder how he did it with a straight face. I saw this on cable with closed captioning. I would have preferred French dialog with subtitles. The English dubbing is lifeless (with all Europeans using bland American accents), and the captioning frequently disagrees with the audio track, occasionally even mistranslating French idioms. Skip this one unless you just want to skim the action sequences!

Pretty dreadful franchisy sequel. Apart from Dahan's (French) meditative camera-work inbetween stock action filming there's absolutely nothing original about this film at all. To name all the contrivances and their lineage would be as boring as the film itself: suffice to say that if you've seen Bond, Indiana Jones and The.., Seven and even The Matrix you've probably covered most of this.Of the cast, Magimel has the 'cute' of Cassel (from the first) but not his charisma. Reno is the one holding it together, although his ennui is rather more phoned-in for this one. And simply putting Christopher Lee in a film - doing his sect-leader yet again - does not rubber-stamp it with integrity (he's left out to dry almost as much as the redundant chick-interest, Natta).I did, however, enjoy an unwittingly (?) postmodern thrill-sequence set in the supermarket. If only there were more of this invention 3/10
