If star ratings were awarded for trying, The Devil Inside would definitely get 5/5 stars. It truly wants to be something. Ever since the Blair Witch Project redefined horror with its 'first person perspective' there have been many imitators. Some have worked, others haven't. Sadly, The Devil Inside is the latter.Every post-Blair Witch first person film will be judged against Blair Witch and, although The Devil Inside tries to break away, it doesn't really succeed. It's about a girl who goes to the Vatican to track down her long lost mother, who was sanctioned by the Catholic Church. Was she simply mad, or possessed? The Devil Inside lurches from one carbon copy of another similar film to another. I saw shades of Paranormal Activity mixed in there with The Last Exorcism (both superior films in my opinion). The actors did as best they could with what they were given. As with these kinds of films, they did well to capture the 'naturalistic' elements of their dialogue. It's just not that scary. If you've seen one exorcism movie, then you've basically seen this one (even if this one does do it from a first-person perspective - which The Last Exorcism has already done anyway). It's not bad, it's just not original. And (SEMI SPOILER ALERT) the ending will leave viewers thoroughly divided. You only have to look at some message boards to see that some people loved it - most despised it and felt ripped off. It's your call. If you really need one more exorcism movie, then give it a go. But you've probably seen everything The Devil Inside has to offer before... and better.

I've read reviews here that indicate this movie is the worst Horror movie of all time, I can only imagine these reviews come from people who don't watch a lot of horror films. While this is only an average film, it does have certain positive aspects that will keep you entertained for its short run time. Dealing with demonic possession, the film offers some scary moments but ultimately fails to deliver much context or sustained interest.I agree the acting was extremely bad from the majority of the cast, however the mockumentary style works well for the jumps that are present and gives it a reason to be put in front of an audience. If you're looking for a few cheap scares then this is for you, if you're looking for a horror film filled with mythology, acting and dialogue, then I'd look somewhere else.

I try not to be too harsh when I watch horror movies, because lets be real here; I'm the lazy one that's spending nine bucks a months on netflix or shamelessly borrowing my friends DVDs to get an adrenaline rush that I'm too poor and too disinclined to go and find through recreational activities like bungee jumping. Whereas I stay in my room and watch horror movies all night and never contribute to society or interact with another human being in person unless I absolutely have to, people in their hundreds come together to supply my need for adrenal exertion so that I can go online and post reviews about what they spent eight months making and I spent eighty minutes watching. That said, I'm trying to be nice with this move. I really, really am. I saw the trailers for this... erm... 'film' all over youtube back before it's release, when I was terrified of horror movies and I had to turn off my speakers AND my monitor until the ad had passed by and I could get to my actual content. Back then, I thought it was possibly the scariest movie ever!I was also still living in fear of The Blair Witch Project's VHS dust slip. All things considered I have to give this movie some points for effort-- I haven't seen too much of science and religion in horror movies, at least not on the exorcism front. Though, this movie is just riddled with tropes and the ending is absolutely terrible from all angles. Story architecture is supposed to work like a hill-- you work up to the main conflict and afterwards everything starts to calm down. However, in this story, we work up to the main conflict and instead of being able to step off the escalator it keeps going, and now you're looking down at your family and friends who have watched normal movies with normal story arcs who are on the way back down the hill and you're frantic and panicking because you're supposed to be down there-- This is not how stories work! This crazy ride was supposed to go back down!-- And all you can do is helplessly keep walking because there's no way back down now, you've already crossed over the point of no return and sealed your fate in the realm of bad storytelling.

Okay so I read your comments but I'd like to say the movie is different. There are some scenes that freaked me out but how many of you have heard about Demonic transfer? This movie proved that demons can get transferred from one person to next. Think in a view of Maria. From Maria to David to Isabella to Michael. That's demonic transfer. If you look at it in a learning way, you will have many questions like What is an exorcism? Or what is Demonic Transfer. I may have not seen it in reality before but I saw it in this movie. I learned a lot from it, thing is Have you? If you didn't pay attention to the small details you would not like it. If you did, you would agree that this is true. Choice is yours.
