I've just finished watching this and many superlatives come to mind: most unbelievable, most ridiculous, most laughable (though not meant to be) story line I've ever seen. Seriously, a drunken Princess Margaret being pushed along the street in a wheelbarrow? An airman gone AWOL having breakfast with the King and Queen the morning after VE Day? Margaret arriving at a dodgy club in the company of four prostitutes? The only factual element in the film was Elizabeth and Margaret being let out of the palace briefly to mingle with the crowds outside the Palace. The rest of it is the product of a high fanciful and vivid screenwriter's imagination.

Great Funny Movie, if based on non events, still I enjoyed it. Wonder what the real event were like? Probably stodgy and stuck up, if only the Queen could have experienced this as written, what a time and memory she'd have. I loved the acting, esp. Margaret with her high pierced voice and the down to earth sister Elizabeth. Jack was awesome! The whole move was well done if not historically correct. I love the writers take and style on the period. I don't what more I can say besides I really liked the movie and will watch it again. I mean I can't believe how good it was.OMG 10 lines is so unreasonable when you just want to say I freaking enjoyed the movie, watch it too. You'll see how great it was!

This fictional account tallies with the characters of the Princesses Elizabeth and Margaret (the only member of the royal family I have seen in person) in wonderful detail (Lilibet is the name Elizabeth gave herself as a very small child--listen to George VI say it, with his stuttering problem). What a night Victory in Europe must have been! It is an amalgam of Odyssey, Pink Panther, and a Chekhov play. The characters go through a unique combination of experiences on a unique night which leaves them with a new perspective on life and how they fit into it. Meg's great oblivious question near the end is worth repeating (she asks George VI and the Queen Mother "What's a knocking shop?") You know when the moment arrives for Lizzie to assert her command as the future queen. A marvelous picture worth seeing more than once!

I loved this movie. I've seen reviews calling out some 'goofs' or saying it was 'pompous'. Seriously - this is not meant to be a serious movie. It's just fun. I watched it on a flight from London back to the U.S. - and was so happy when it came out on pay-per-view - so I watched it again. I thought they did a nice job on creating characters that look much like the real people would have looked. And for those who pay attention, they even used the king's nickname - which we've learned from other movies. So it made it seem even more real. One critique is that they really didn't need the one brief nude scene. Now I can't watch this with my grandchildren - which is a shame - because otherwise it would be fun to watch with the kids. The airline version did not have the nudity - so it would have been nice if they could have left it out altogether.
