In the year of 2039, after World Wars destroy much of the civilization as we know it, territories are no longer run by governments, but by corporations; the mightiest of which is the Mishima Zaibatsu. In order to placate the seething masses of this dystopia, Mishima sponsors Tekken, a tournament in which fighters battle until only one is left standing.

Video fighting games never seem to adapt well to the big screen. In the past we've had the likes of STREET FIGHTER and MORTAL KOMBAT crash and burn and remaining totally forgotten about these days apart from all but the most die-hard action lovers. TEKKEN is another low rent addition to this sub-genre of film-making, a high intensity and noisily violent fighting film without much in the way of story or originality to bother it.The film is based on a Japanese video game and is a Japanese/US co-production. It stars the little-known Jon Foo as Jin Kazama, a poor young fighter who enters a futuristic fighting tournament in order to win glory and riches for himself. What follows is a film chock-full of hard-hitting action which is nevertheless let down by some choppy editing and poor fight choreography. You know the routine in these Hollywood films: the actors never get a real chance to show off their unadulterated skills because the editor is too busy cutting the fights with super-fast editing. It's a shame, but little surprise given director Dwight H. Little's pedigree (which includes HALLOWEEN 4).Still, if you like nondescript action with plenty of added-in special effects, TEKKEN passes the time, just about. Foo is probably the weakest link to me here; I only know him for his brief cameo in WARRIOR KING, but he seems entirely to lack gravitas and depth, even if he does look like the character he plays. Cary-Hiroyuki Tagawa stars as the tournament director and the ever-scary Cung Le plays one of the rival fighters. Gary Daniels is here too in a typical bad guy part although he's sorely underutilised, which is a shame because he looks fantastic. I was surprised to see Luke Goss on board given that he doesn't take part in much of the action. Lateef Crowder, also from WARRIOR KING, also has a cameo pretty much exactly the same as in that movie.

I Like the game franchise of it self and the game storyline of itself and it is very interesting but as far as the game movie adaption is concerned it is garbage and speaking of garbage that where this horse crap of a movie belongs. In the game eddy and Christie interact with each other in the movie the don't.Where are Characters like Julia, ling, king, lei, lee and Paul just to name few. This has nothing to do with game whatsoever. The fighting were horrible, the plot is stupid, Steve fox is middle age when he is suppose to be a boxer in his twenties. Raven looks like raven but doesn't act like raven, Sergei was a waste of time being put in this movie and Miguel was useless. It's trash.

First off, I am a die hard Tekken fan. It is one of my favorite fighting game franchises. When i heard that there was a Tekken movie, my immediate thought was "Oh no, they are going to ruin it." WELL, I was wrong. I actually enjoyed it! I liked every bit of it. The story may not have been that great but you think about it, its hard trying to establish a story entwining 40 or so fighters in the entire franchise. The acting may not be great, but they are trained stunt-men and martial artists. The sets were cool, the costumes/makeup were great (except for Heihachi, his hairdo was a mess). There were some moments that had me scratching my head in disbelief but I'm not going to complain. (Thats what nitpickers do and I'm not a nitpicker). My only disappointment is that some of my favorite fighters weren't featured. Like Hwoarang, King and Lili. Thats all I have to say. Its no masterpiece nor as good as MK but I recommend this to anyone that enjoys Tekken or martial arts. I give this movie a 7 out of 10.

This movie is horrible! What an insult to Tekken!! Almost everything about it was bad. The producers just threw a random bunch of characters into the movie from all tekken games. The storyline is a joke. In the true story, Jun was supposedly killed by Ogre not blown up. For characters like Raven, Yoshimitusu and Eddy, Hehachi the looks were good, Everyone else = CRAP.It was all completely off. Jin was way too weak. They couldn't even do some make up to give Kazuya his chest scar. But they sure can give him a goatee!!? Where is the bitter hatred between Hehachi and Kazuya and Anna and Nina? I recommend that all Tekken fans not waste their time watching the movie.
