So predictable, obvious that alot of work was put in making this movie but it had no exciting parts never had me at the edge of my seat. Was very informative.
I decided to watch this film on a late Saturday night. I picked it because I knew Kumajl Nanjiani from Silicon Valley, and I was bored and felt like watching a comedy (I didn't really know what the film was about). And, oh boy, was I in for a surprise. The comedic aspect was there, but the emotional side was a total surprise for me. Even though the film is only loosely based on a true story, it felt very realistic and I found it easy to connect with the protagonist (Kumail Nanjiani can play dramatic roles, too! Well, it is explainable because he was almost reliving some tragic moments and feelings he had been through before). I found it particularly amusing when "Up" was mentioned because at some point the film seemed to carry an emotional weight which I could only compare with the very same movie. Overall, I was very positively impressed with "The Big Sick" and I liked it. Totally unexpected and I understand all the hype about it now! I would even go as far as saying that it is a must-see!
This movie is very emotional and very very real its like watching a good reality show (i dont know if this exists). But really Ive watched many movies that are based on true stories but this one is the very unique and just so beautiful.
I knew I wanted to see this after seeing Kumail make the late-night talk show circuit, and it far exceeded my expectations. His humor is so real, so effortless, and the chemistry between them was amazing. Holly Hunter and Ray Romano as the parents were perfect, bringing both grief and humor in the same scenes. This is one of those movies I can watch over and over again, and not get tired of it. The only down side for me was the scenes in the comedy club and his "one man show". I understand the importance of them to the story, but for me they were really just good points to go get a snack.
