Mobster Frank hires DJ Darrell to man the turntables at a party for his daughter Dolly. At the event, some rival mobsters pull guns on frank, and Darrell steps in to save his life. Frank then gives the DJ a job as his daughter's bodyguard, but, to the mobster's dismay, Dolly starts to fall for the smooth-talker. Their romance is interrupted when Frank gets involved in a mob war and drags Darrell along with him....I have heard some horrible things about this film, and although it is pretty bad on many levels, it certainly doesn't deserve it's 2.9 rating on IMDb.It's obviously a potential film career starter for the singer, whom showed a little promise in The Faculty, and She's All That, but here, he looks lost, and it's a big thing considering that he can command a stage in front of thousands of fans, the man has no screen presence in this.As a supposed comedy, it's devoid of any laughs, and I for one, could not find any jokes in the film that were even supposed to be classed as comedy.Kevin Hart has a supporting role, but he looks and acts like he got his motivation from the Chris Tucker school of screeching. But the real reason to watch this is the fact that we have these seasoned actors in some of the worthless roles I have ever seen. Palminteri is doing nothing more than playing a stereotypical mobster, Davi turns up out of the blue in various scenes, and every ones favourite smoker, Nick Mancuso does exactly the same. But it's surprisingly watchable, for the inane script, the hilarious incoherence, and the overwhelmingly cheesy ending.See it, tell no one that you have, and then erm...Fhuggedaboudid...

I don't hate Usher, but I am not a fan of his either, and I did decide to see In the Mix regardless of whether he had acting or lack thereof despite the negative reviews and low IMDb rating. What can I say? Not trying to sound opinionated but this film was awful.First of all, the acting- it was non-existent. Usher has the charisma and the charm I suppose, but he completely forgets his acting skills literally sleepwalking through his role. Usher is not the only bad thing about In the Mix though, everything is bad. The other acting is nothing to write home about, in fact the only good performance comes from Chazz Palminteri and he deserved better than this. The cinematography and such are not good, looking amateurish and as though the film thinks it is a music video. The soundtrack is pretty forgettable as well, I didn't find myself humming a tune or anything as I finished watching the film. Not only that, the story is badly written, with one too many predictable and unrealistic scenarios, the pacing is all over the map and the direction is just as incompetent as the acting. The worst part was the script, which was well and truly abominable. I honestly do not know what the screenwriter was thinking writing this script; there are several bad screenplays but this one does take the biscuit don't you think? And then to add insult to injury, the film is riddled with stereotypes and some of them are really quite unsubtle. In conclusion, awful film and sorry I don't recommend it whatsoever. Go and see it if you like but while not quite the worst movie ever made it is a poor film on pretty much every level and I'll be honest it actually made me somewhat angry. 1/10 Bethany Cox

Well, first things first : Usher Raymond is smart to begin in a simple romantic comedy as this (so if he failed, it wouldn't be a big deal since the movie is that small anyway !) . Emmanuelle Chriqui is beautiful, sensitive, and has a real sexy voice. Chazz Palminteri is Chazz Palminteri, and that's not a bad thing by the way ! It's only (Ron Underwood) who was disappointing; after promising movies such as (Tremors, City Slickers, Heart and Souls) he became so far from dreams he gave to me about excellent Hollywood director who doesn't execute inasmuch as feel and create. However, the movie isn't that bad. It's just ordinary. Watchable but as something between average and weak. The low points come basically from that script. There is no effort has been made. The girl loves the boy, so the boy doesn't need much to impress the girl. The father loves the boy, so the boy didn't suffer much getting the father's approval. And so on..Now for the very provocative points : the girl knew one night about the boy's previous girlfriend (or girlfriends), though she throws herself in his arms AND in the same night ! The girl goes to the boy's home to find another girl "classically accidentally" with him, so she understands, always and forever, the situation wrong (ancient boring stuff, it's unbelievable that anyone still uses it as dull as this !). The girl sleeps with the boy so easily (actually the movie shows her as the easiest girl from the start!). There are no fine special details (the matter of : we've seen all of that before, and better too !). Furthermore : why this script - while dealing with gangs and assassinations - lacks the action badly ?! (There isn't one car chase for god's sake !).But the biggest bugging point about it is surely its ending. The girl, the boy and all the characters got no problem at all towards the business of the father (a crime lord, a mafia boss, in a word : another Italian godfather !). The moralities weren't missing like this in a harmless romantic comedy like that before. It even gets bigger and bigger when the boy, after joining the Mix, is happy of all the money that he got with his bride out of the invited people's pockets !! So it doesn't totally matter if it's dirty money or not; it's just enough to marry your love, living wealthy and influential while forgetting about trivial things like stealing and killing. Just get in the mix even if it's filthy or bloody. I bet, this could have been Vito Corleone's favorite movie ! It's not The Godfather, where the family is ruled and infected in the same time by crime. It's maybe the next more cool generation, where the girl, her lover, so their story's makers too, don't concern much about that! I think this apathetic indifferent ending pushed the viewer, even unconsciously, to turn a cold shoulder to the whole movie.

This movie is just plain great. I loved it more than I love life itself. Usher is probably the best actor in the world, bar none! I'm amazed that Daniel Day Lewis didn't make an appearance in this cinematic gem. His loss I guess. I saw this in theaters the day it came out and I couldn't sleep until it finally came out on DVD. Now I can watch this timeless classic over and over and over again. I like to sit on the couch and chew tinfoil while I spoil myself to multiple viewings of this blockbuster hit. Sometimes I call in sick and stay home just so I can watch this movie. (Even the credits are a treat) I cancelled cable and sold all my other DVDs as I'm just to engrossed with this movie at the time. I'm watching the movie right now (YAY!!!!). I made my own quiz game based on this movie, I play it when I can't watch the movie , like when I'm driving or at weddings and other unimportant things. My only complaint is that the movie is to short, I wish it would never end and IMDb only let me give ten stars when it deserves at least 36.1.3333333333 stars...YAY!
