Paul, a normal man engaged with Karen, gets an unexpected hangover after his bachelor party and ends up in bed with a girl whom he doesn't remember. From that moment, he's going to encounter a series of difficulties which will make him rethink his relationship and his way of life. This movie, with its common and so many times used plot, although it had potential, manages to be a yawn-making and head-scratching machine. At some point tends to be serious and then the very next one becomes a parody. It has so many moments which make absolutely no sense in this movie, like Becky's psycho cop girlfriend who always comes into the picture just to spoil it without any reason. And the way the whole idea was treated...I really wasted time with this movie and I'm actually sorry for actors like Julia Stiles who end up in such "films".To be honest with you, if it wasn't for her and the fact that the movie managed to make me laugh a couple of times, we'd be talking about a much lower rating

When it comes to mainstream romantic comedies, I try to avoid them as much as I can, but sometimes they are done so well, or dumb that they deserve a viewing. This is the case with the A Guy Thing (I guess it would be called Bro Thing nowadays) directed by Chris Koch ( Scrubs, My Name Is Earl, Snow Day) and starring Jason Lee and Julia Stiles. At its core this is a classic love story where guy realizes that he loves someone else and that besides her he can be himself (wait 'till you start living together and we'll see how that turns out for ya), but there are enough gags and jokes to keep things interesting. Granted there isn't enough R-rated humor or nudity but still Jason Lee makes any movie work. And the fact that they didn't resort to any tricks or overly sappy scenes only works to their benefit.Paul is getting married and we meet up with him on his bachelor party where he's quite bored and in love with his future wife. Even when the exotic dancers show up he doesn't seem excited, but he will be when he wakes up the next morning with one of them in his bed. Dazed and confused he chucks her out of the apartment since his future wife is arriving in a few minutes, and he's not in the mood for threesome. Thinking that that's that he carries on with his life trying to forget the whole thing but he keeps bumping into that girl. But what is really gonna rock his world is when he finds out that she is Karen's very close cousin and that she's attending the wedding…Check out my review site Rabbit-Reviews for movies that are worth watching, Rabbit out...

I have to say, when I first ran across this movie on Encore one day I was not expecting much. In fact I only watched it because I'm a big fan of Lee ever since I saw Malrats... I just knew he was going to be big based on that movie, he was funny as heck."A Guy Thing" took me by surprise. It was fun, and funny, and had some really great moments. As far as "romantic comedies" goes it was good. It was not too romantic, but rather put a funny spin on weddings and getting married in general. The "relationships" were taken more lightly than most romantically based comedy types. And it was really all around a well done movie. The jokes were a good mix, some very subtle moments, and some other more obvious laughs, but in all it was entertaining the entire time.Julia Stiles was quite surprising in a light comedy role. I had really only seen her be serious, or typical teen cliché in things I'd seen. She was never especially good or bad, just sort of there.... But in this movie, not only does she look as beautiful as I've ever seen her, she is pure and entertaining. Her knack for comedy is something I'd love to see more of, she was quite funny in this movie from her silly tiki dance, to her quirky timing.Lee is his typically brilliant self. The guy is just so much more talented than people even know yet. His diversity always seems to amaze me. This character was a bit removed from most things I've seen him do. He was just such a typical every man, that you almost forget while watching him that this was not actually him and was in fact a character. But that is a sign of a great actor. The supporting roles are all great as well.... from end to end, top to bottom the movie was just a lot of fun. And I expect nothing more from a comedy such as this.

Maybe this is every man's dream? To have a one night drunken fling with your fiancé's cousin? Or so you think. Turns out, it becomes a headache to keep it concealed for long.Enter panties left at the scene of the crime and everything just snowballs. From enraged police officers to wearing a wire for the FBI to bust such an officer, the movie takes one problem and turns it into multiple ones for the main character.Like many 90s films of this genre, however, this one also has a happy ending. Sort of. But this one is unique that it has two love triangles in one. But I guess I am happy everybody else was happy.Overall, the laughs were fairly good. So if you have a little time to kill, this will do the trick. "C+"
