Sydney White (2007): Dir: Joe Nussbaum / Cast: Amanda Bynes, Sara Paxton, Matt Long, John Schneider, Jeremy Howard: Modern day Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs where Sydney White goes to college only to be rejected and humiliated by a sorority and the acceptance she gains from seven underachievers. The Snow White touch is just a cover for a screenplay done a million times over and it hasn't improved here. Directed by Joe Nussbaum who does what he can with the familiar drivel. Amanda Bynes can be very funny and intelligent in the right material but here she is weighted down with the stupidity of bad screen writing. We know the drill and we also know that Bynes will prove much to many because she is rehearsing the same speech done by a thousand other actors in a thousand other equally bad films. Sara Paxton as the popular girl is a Xerox of several other characters. Matt Long is pitiful as the nice guy who falls for Bynes, and he is no different than any other idiot who got suckered into this type of role. Finally there is a cameo by John Schneider as Sydney's father. This is probably not the last time this story will surface but unless something changes then the appeal will remain the same much like a re-test by a student who didn't study the second time around. Rather than take its fairy tale clichés to new heights, it settles for another Xerox and it fails miserably. Score: 3 / 10

Sydney White is a movie based around a young girl going to college. Of course there are many many other movies about that. However, this movie has a more heartwarming approach to it and it made me want to continue watching. I liked that fact that she had come from a "tomboyish" background which made her not fit in with the clichéd sorority girls. As this is a modern version of Snow White it is predictable. You instantly know who the "evil queen" is who the "handsome prince" is and who the "innocent, kind girl" is. But hey, that doesn't mean we cant enjoy the movie right?I also liked the fact that the movie wasn't based on her romantic life(as most chick flicks are), it was based on getting through the ups and downs of college. Overall i give this movie a 7/10 and would recommend it to a friend who likes to watch chick flicks (but not to a friend who doesn't like clichéd movies).

Sydney White, a girl from a working class family, goes to the same college where her late mother graduated, something that makes her a legacy candidate for the Kappa sorority. Little does Sydney realize what awaits her when she makes an enemy of the powerful president of the student body, and the Kappas, Rachel Witchburn. It becomes apparently that the mean spirited Rachel does not like competition and she will make anything in her power to make life impossible for Sydney. As Sydney is rejected from joining the Kappas, she finds refuge at the Vortex, the dilapidated fraternity house that seven young geek types call home. Sydney is a good influence for the guys because she transforms their outlook, as well as give them the necessary tools to overcome their natural shyness and lack of social graces."Sydney White" is a composite of a film in which elements from other movies on the subject has been explored. Joe Nussbaum's direction of the screenplay by Chad Gomez Creasey does not bring anything new one has not already seen. The idea of going to college to learn seems secondary to most students according to Hollywood. The idea that the dork types are losers, while the failing students are cool, perpetuates a myth that is just not so. In the end, the geeks will be employing most of the cool guys who never learned anything in college at minimum wages. The peppy Amanda Bynes is seen in the title role of Sydney. Sarah Paxton, is Rachel Witchburn in all her blondness. Matt Long plays Tyler.

"Sydney White" is the typical losers-become-winners where we cheer for the underdogs.Amanda Bynes is Sydney White, a freshman in college, who doesn't fit in with her Greek sorority. Determined to fight them she teams up with 7 'dorks' and launches a campaign to win back the school. Yes it is supposed to be a modern update of Snow White which I find lame, but it's easy to ignore that.It has all of the characters you expect to find, the cute tomboy, the pretty and popular mean girl, the cute and popular but also sweet guy, and the geek (7 of them in this case). The great thing about these characters is that the important ones, who are supposed to be more than just caricatures, actually are.And of course the highlight is Amanda Bynes, she is funny and sweet and pretty and very easy to like. Most people are familiar with Bynes so if you have liked her previous films ("What a Girl Wants" (2003) or "She's the Man" (2006)) then you should like her here. If you are not a fan of hers then I respect your opinion but think you're missing something, and you should probably also skip this."Sydney White" is everything that you want in a cute, sweet, feel good PG movie. I recommend it.
